Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Drum will not turn

I have a FDGB34RGS1 Frigidaire Crown Gas Dryer. Recently it has started acting up where it will not turn on and begin to rotate when I hit the start knob. Sometimes I can get it to turn on by manually rotating the drum. Then when I release override switch, close the door and again turn the START knob, it does start and seems to work ok. This worked about a month ago ... but it is not working today. Any suggestions? Thanks ... in advance.

From your description, you may have a bad spot in the armature of the motor, or a faulty centrifugal switch on the motor.

Dryer makes a buzzing noise when I turn it on but it doesn't come on, just buzzes.

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.
What is the model number?

I assume the buzzing quit when you release the start button. Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. My Frigidaire Crown electric dryer isn't heating. The drum turns but no heat! HELP!

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

When we press the button to start the dryer, we hear the buzzing but the dryer does not move.

Dryer will not start, when you press start it only hums , it acts like it is stuck in pause mode

Your problem may be a broken belt, or could be a faulty motor, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley or idler arm pulley.
Try this first:
Unplug your dryer, reach inside the drum and rotate the drum 1/4-1/2 turn. Plug your dryer back in and push the start button again.
Sometimes motors get dead zones in them, and this will help to move it from that zone.
If this does not help then you will need to check further.
If it is a front load machine, you can remove the front and this will expose the drum and belt, you can then remove the belt and drum and that will expose the motor, and idler arm bracket with pulley.
I hope this helps

Squealing dryer

The dryer drum support on the rear of the drum is worn and must be replaced.
It is a ball and cup design. It is worn out.

Frigidaire Crown series (FDGB34RGS1) doesn't turn on

This is more than likely a thermal switch that has gone bad. You will find it located under the top of the dryer. You will need to remove the top and find it at or near the drum. You can bypass it to see if that is the problem. If it is, you can replace it for about 25 dollars. This usually is the problem. If not, let me know back and we can go further.

Fridgidaire Gas Dryer - Mod.#FDG 546 RBS 0 Press start button just a humming noise, drum doesn't turn. Tried rotating the drum manually and it turns only with great effort so I don't think is't a belt. 12+...

Your glides are brobably broken and missing. This will make the drum hard to turn and bind the motor. Get the front off the dryer:

Get the screws out that hold the front on and take a look:
