Question about Toshiba DVD & Blu-Ray Players

2 Answers

I have a Toshiba RD-XS52SU HDD?DVD Video Recorder that won't turn on (in spite of green light indicator after a few seconds). Nothing is displayed on the LED screen, and no indicator lights illuminate for DVD/HDD/TM SLP. Is this a motherboard malfunction, or is there someway to reset the boot cycle.

I've tried this remedy repeatedly. No good.

  • jtenbusch May 24, 2008

Already went through owner's manual. Nothing useful there.

  • jtenbusch May 24, 2008

Tried many different outlets. That's not the problem. As I said, the green ready light does come on from the red "standby" state. The LED clock continues to work, but none of the panel buttons work. Can't open the DVD drawer. Pressing the input button results in nothing. Pressing any one of the function buttons for HDD or DVD or TMSLP results in nothing.

    No.

Nope, didn't help. Anything I can do inside the box?

Hi,

You can try out a hard reset first by unpluging all the cords from the back for 30min and then put them back.

Goodluck..

See if the light don't turn on it can be an internal issue with the dvd itself which can only be fixed by repairing it.Anyways did you try plugging the player into a different outlet?Just give it a try?

Is there any dvd stuck inside?

  • Priya darshan May 24, 2008

ok now there is only one home remedy you can try.Turn the player upside down and then hit 2 or 3 times a little hard.If this doesn't help then the only solution will be to get it repaired.

Inside the box?Nope nothing can be said what can be wrong but if you want you van try removing the top cover and check for any loose connections of the wire.If there are any then you'll have to solder them up.But i strongly recommend you not to do this.It is better to get it repaired.

If you need anymore help let me know..

Check the capacitor in the power supply board, if defective it will show a slight bulge at top, value should be around 1000uf give or take, if handy with soldering iron replace with same value and voltage rating.

I have a recorder that whenever i put in video cassettes stops playing after a few seconds and turns the unit off. Can anyone help. Thanks

sounds like belts and rollers and any sensors you see need to be cleaned - it sounds like the unit thinks tape is at end and is shutting down

use qtip and rubbing alcohol to clean

try using different tape just to make sure it is not just a bad tape

Trying to dubb video from hard drive to dvd-r and error 14 keeps coming up on the screen. thanks sylvie

Well, by now I'm sure that you know to clear the code, you press the "Display" button a few times. As for getting the Toshiba to actually burn a DVD, I'm not certain that I can help you there, as I've run into problems burning stuff. Unfortunately, it doesn't burn all the time, even if you use the same routine as the last successful burn.

Firmware update failed RD-XS34Su

If it was a toshiba supplied disk, then I should follow up with them with the failure, as it was their fix, that caused this problem, they should replace/repair this unit for you

Answering my own question,Switch on recorder manually then hold down SETUP KEY and No 2 key at the same time.As this is a common fault with this recorder would advise taking note of this solution.
