Question about Kenwood KGC-4042A 5-Band Car Equalizer

1 Answer

I have just installed a Kenwood KGC-4042A equalizer & am having trouble with it. I have 12 VDC to the unit when the accessory is turned on (also turning on the radio), the LEDs will blink on then immediately blink off the radio continues to stay on as it should. On the equalizer, the EQ button is on & subwoofer is off (don't have one on system). The connections are all good & tight & power remains, but EQ just flashes on, then off. What would be some good ideas to check? Thanks!

Check for good ground

The ground is good, but I figured out my problem. It was the Power Control (P. Cont.) wire not being hooked up to the radio's power control wire. I've never hooked one up with such a thing

What is the blue/white wire on a kgc-6042a car equalizer and the yellow which is the power

blue/white would be the "turn on signal" wire, i.e. one that gets 12v when the unit is supposed to be on (this would correspond to the amp turn-on or power antenna wire from your CD player) whereas the yellow wire is the 12v constant power wire.

How to hook up a equalizer

i believe you need to be running an aftermarket amplifier to use this E.Q. does it only have RCA inputs and outputs on the back of it? if it does, you'll need to run the rca's out of the radio into the E.Q. then run the rca out's from the E.Q. to the inputs of your amplifier. and of course there's probably a constant 12v, a switched 12v, and a ground you'll have to wire up.

I understand the diagram with the +12v and the gnd wires, but does the third wire only work with other Kenwood products? It appears to be a "sense" wire or similar that feels the presence of a powered-up...

Hello davec99,

The third wire is commonly called a "remote" wire and is used to turn on other devices, such as an amp, connected to the audio system. When the equalizer is off, there's no signal on the wire. When the equalizer is on, a low current 12V signal is on the wire, signalling the remote device to turn-on.

Hope this helps.

HELP installing kenwood KGC 9044

You will only use the front pre outs from the deck to plug into the only available input on the EQ. You will loose fading and subwoofer controls from the deck which is the main problem when using an eq. Then go from the eq to each of the 3 corresponding amplifiers (front, rear, sub). You will then use the eq as your control for ading front to back and sub control. Im sure by now you have it figured out anyway but if you need help, let me know. Be sure to leave good feedback so and get paid!!!!$$$

(How To?) installing kenwood KGC 9044

You'll have to use your choice of either the front outputs or rear outputs to plug into the eq. Most equalizers I've ever seen only accept 2 channels of input, then give anything from 2 to 6 channels of output, depending on the eq.
