Question about Cobra 22 CHANNEL 2-WAY RADIOS

1 Answer

Low Battery I purchased a Cobra Micro talk about 6 months ago. Used them a few times and left them in the RV. Recently turned them on and got an expected low battery indication. They would not charge up with the Conra battery charger. I took the rechargable batteries out and charged them correctly in another charger. Put them back it and got the same low level. Bought some newduracell batteries and got the same problem. I thought it might be a problem with one of the units but they are BOTH doing it. Suggestions????

Dear sir, u need to clean the battery terminals/. Battery chemicals creates an internal circuitary & causes drain of batteryu at faster rate soem times 12 times faster than normal .. , best way to do is
open all screws , then wash the radio with iso-propyle alcohol..& a brush let it dry fully then assemble the same . I hope u will be able to get gud back up time .

Radio will not turn on back light lights but that's it. And then to turn it off I have to take out a battery

Model numbers are critical. Cobra makes a lot of different models and instructions are different. Micro Talk is what they call them all. That said, on one model, the "light" is located beneath the PTT switch. It also adjusts the squelch for "max" range. Make certain it is not jammed by seeing if the switch moves. Other than that, it is only a light and would extend the battery if left off. On all Cobras with top mounted audio jacks, make certain they are covered at all times. Any liquid can intrude and could cause any number of issues, including your light problem. Factory repair is your only option except you could open 1 up and clean the board carefully.

Do you leav the cobra micro talk walkie talkies on when charging

Also, never transmit with them in the charging cradle. I know, lots do but you risk ruining the radio beyond repair.

Package, manuel and receipt were accidentally thrown away and we don't know how to charge the radios. They work, but are running low on battery power! They have a power supply cord that you plug both...

From what I just read on the Cobra website, you may be misinterpreting the battery indicator lights:

My radio keeps showing low batteries

This may simply be a matter of misinterpreting the low-battery indicator. We use two different types of battery indicators:
  1. Battery Level Indicator: This battery indicator is always visible, and has several segments. When all the segments are lit, the batteries are full. When only the last segment is lit, the batteries are almost exhausted.
  2. Low Battery Indicator: This type is usually NOT visible. It only appears when the batteries are low, at which time it flashes on the display to warn you of a low battery condition.
Please note that when you turn on your radio it first performs a display test. Everything on the display will light up for a few seconds, including the Low Battery Indicator. This does not mean that the batteries are low. After a few seconds the display test will end, at which time the Low Battery Indicator should go away.

Here is a link to the Manual for your radio:

https://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/PR260WX_MANL.pdf

It is a PDF file, which requires that you have Adobe Reader or equivalent installed on your computer for it to open and display properly. If you don't have it, it can be found here (it's free!):

I have the Cobra micro Talk LI6000-2 (14 Channels) 2-Way Radios and one turns on and charges and the other will not turn on for anything. They will not charge unless turned on and on the charger; so one is...

  • The fact that these turn on while on the charger is an indicator that the batteries are just that far gone. Depending on how much you like these radios vrs the cost of a new set is something to think about.

  • This link is where you can get a reliable battery replacement.

http://www.batteries.com/battery/cobra/103-0001-1-battery_R-414884-205946.html
  • I use a newer Midland talk around for camping, hiking etc. The thing I always look for in a talk around radio is if the manufacturer battery goes bad or runs dry can I use some batteries at home with it? I like the fact I can put 4AA batteries of the shelf in my radio in an emergency. And when the stock battery gores kaput, I can use some AA rechargeable batteries I already have at home and save on replacing the battery or radio. Something to think about should you decide to get a different radio set.

Just went to their site and this is what it said:

I have the cobra micro talk with rechargeable batteries my workers plug them up every night and get them in the morning but some arestill saying low battery, does the walkie talkie need to be turned off...

they charge better if they are turned off. since they do not have a paid dedicated channel, signals can

still be received by any walkie talkie using the same channel, and can deplete the charging process

to the radio. good luck!

Pair of radios won't talk to each other

Have you checked the QT filter? The T5950 have an addtional interference filter called the QT filter. It filters out other radios and allows Motorola radios to speak only to other Motorola radios with the filter. Check the QT setting on both radios by pushing the menu button 6 times, the QT setting will show. If it shows a straight line on the display the filter is not on. Now push the + button (beside the menu button), to turn the QT filter on (a Y will show on the screen when on) or the - button to turn it off (the line will show when filter is off). The radios have to match all channels and all filters to talk to each other.
