The power "bricks" for D-Link routers are notorious for failing, without notice.

Either scour the local "thrift-shops" for a cheap replacement,
or search on eBay, or spend $40 for a brand-new router.

usb speeds b> A USB, or Universal Serial Bus, is the brainchild of Intel developer Ajay Bhatt. USB is useful for transmitting data and power to devices. USB cables are widely used in 2010 to connect computers to such devices as printers, cameras and flash drives. While the USB port was initially developed for computers, it has become standard for video game consoles, smart phones, PDAs; it can also function as power cords for these devices.
Unit Load Capacity
USB comes in 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 versions. Each provides between 4.75 and 5.25 volts (V) of power that travels between one wired line. Various devices may draw this amount of power from that single, wired line. A maximum of five unit loads can be drawn from a USB 2.0 port, however six unit loads can be drawn from a USB 3.0 port, making it capable of delivering more power to devices. USB devices are configured to support a minimum of 100 milliamps (mA) times the number of powered ports it contains (200mA for one port, 300mA for two ports, etc.). b> Charging Devices b> Many devices can draw power to recharge their batteries or can function off of power currents running through a USB port cord. Superspeed USB ports run off a 3.0 platform and optimize power usage to provide the minimum amount of energy the device needs to recharge or run. New powering modes allow USB ports to supply power and communication (data transfer) concurrently. A USB Charging Downstream Port can supply up to 1.5 amps (A) at low-bandwidth transfer rates and 900mA at high bandwidth rates. A portable device such as a phone or PDA can draw up to 1.8 A from a Dedicated Charging Port on a USB 2.0 or higher device. In 2009, major cell phone manufacturers like Nokia, Motorola and Samsung agreed upon a standard, universal micro-USB charger for all their phones. In time, this will eliminate the need for manufacturers to provide charging cables with their phones. This micro-USB device has been adopted by the International Telecommunication Union as its universal mobile phone charger solution. When a device requires more power than can be delivered by a single USB port, that device may be charged with a multi-ported USB. External hard drives, for example, can be powered by a USB cable that connects to an external power supply on one end and to a device on the other. b> Powered USB b> A powered USB is a self-powered USB that uses additional power lines than standard USB ports to deliver more electrical current to a device. It uses four extra pins to supply 6 A at either 5 V, 12 V or 24 V to attached devices. Powered USBs are used to power retail devices like barcode scanners, printers, pin pads and signature capture devices. These USBs consist of two ports: a top one which accepts a USB cable and a bottom one which accepts a power cord. The powered USB allows devices to draw more power from a USB and not require an external power source to operate.

Low-power USB devices can be plugged into any USB host or hub port. A low drop-out regulator is required for most 3.3 volt devices. b> High-Power USB b> High-power USB 2.0 devices consume between 101 milliampere and 500 milliampere (1 to 5 load units) to run on. USB 3.0 supports power consumption of up to 900 milliampere (6 load units). These devices can be plugged in to any USB port, but if you are using a USB hub, the device will only be able to draw 100 milliampere unless the hub is self-powered. High-power USB devices run on a minimum of 4.40 volts. b> Self-Powered USB b> Two types of self powered USB devices exist: true self-powered devices that rely completely on their own power supply, and hybrid self-powered devices that also draw some current from the USB bus. Hybrid self-powered USB devices typically draw up to one load unit from the bus and use their own external source for the rest of their power. Most of these devices have a safety feature to ensure that they don't try to draw more power from the bus, should the external source fail. High Speed USB Port Since 2002, Microsoft has supported high-speed USB ports in the Windows XP operating system. Prior to 2002, computers and operating systems used the USB 1.1 standard, with its 12Mbps maximum data transfer rates. USB 2.0, also known as "Hi-Speed," pushes the maximum data transfer speed to 480Mbps. To take advantage of the higher speeds, you'll need to install a USB 2.0 card in your computer. In most cases, desktop users will need to install an internal card, while laptop users with PC Card or ExpressCard slots may install external cards.
Purchase an internal USB card or internal USB drive bay. Shut down your computer. Remove all cables and peripheral devices. Remove the left side panel (when facing the front of the case). Remove any screws or adjust any latches. The method of removing your side panel will vary according to the type of case you have. If you are unsure of how to remove your side panel, see your case or computer documentation. Attach the anti-static wrist bracelet's clip to a metal object. Strap the bracelet to your wrist. Locate an empty card slot. Remove the card slot cover by unscrewing the screw and lifting the cover, if applicable. Line up the hardware with the slot to ensure that you are inserting it in the correct direction. Insert the card into the slot until you hear a click. Do not force the card. Remove it if you're having problems. Then line up the card with the slot again and try to insert it again. Secure the card into the slot with the slot cover screw you removed earlier. Replace the side panel. Screw in any screws you removed earlier. Attach all cables and peripheral devices to your computer. Restart the computer. Durattional batteries are much costly however. Also, the request of the device require to power on only when an activity of videography is required and power off when the shoots are over. Make sure to power off the device completely between shoots since recent device have idle displays assumed as poweered off that over durations consumkes the power cuurent. Refer the devices user guide to ascertain about the manufacturers expectations of teh device with power consumption. Tmobile dash isn't turning on


  1. Verify that the OEM Charger and Battery are being used.
    • Only the AC charger, Car charger, or USB data cable that came with or was created for the device should be used; others can damage the device and/or battery.
  2. Is the device warm?
    • When using the device for prolonged periods of time, such as when you're talking on the phone, charging the battery or browsing the web, the device may become warm. In most cases, this condition is normal and therefore should not be interpreted as a problem with the device.The device has a protection feature that if the device becomes too warm (due to use of GPS while charging, BT while charging, using the device as a wireless modem, etc), the auto protection feature will be triggered and the charging process will be stopped. Once the device cools down, the device will then begin charging again.
  3. Check the USB Port on the device for any bent or misshapen PIN's.
    • If some are found, that is the most likely cause and this is considered physical damage not covered under the Warranty.
  4. Remove the battery and inspect the contacts.
    • Remove any debris/residue found on the device or battery contacts with a soft, dry cloth.
  5. Look closely at the battery contacts on the phone to see if they are bent out of shape.
    • If they are bent, the device will need to be exchanged.
  6. Try charging the device (try different power sources as well as chargers):
    • Plug in USB to device and PC; is the LED indicating that the device is charging?
      • Note: If the device isn't charging while connected via USB to a PC, go to Start>Settings>More>Power>Power Management and make sure that "When device is turned on, do not charge the device when connected to the PC" is set to OFF.
    • Plug in AC Charger to device and outlet; is the LED indicating that the device is charging?
      • LED indicators: Charging is indicated by a solid Amber light on the upper Left side of the face of the device.
        • Note: If the battery is completely dead, the light will be a solid RED for a few seconds while it is charging; once the device has enough power to turn on, the light will turn to Amber.
  7. Try another Power Source.
    • Try a different outlet to rule out that as the issue.
  8. Try another battery in the device.
    • If another battery doesn't work, perform a Hard Reset.
      • If the device powers up after Hard Reset, test the unit for a few days. If issue returns, device can be considered for an exchange.
      • If device shows charging with one (AC Charger or USB) and not the other, issue is with the accessory. Replace accessory.
      • If device will only power up when attached to charger (AC or USB) it is likely the battery needs to be replaced.
Device won't hold a Charge
The life of the battery between charging sessions will vary depending on which features of the unit are being used.
  1. Verify the you are using:
    • OEM AC Charger
    • OEM USB Data Cable
    • OEM Battery
  2. Fully charge the battery using the OEM AC Charger
    • USB and car chargers are trickle chargers meant to get the user through until they can get to their AC Charger.
  3. If the device is not lasting the advertised Talk time, with minimal use, try another OEM battery in the device.
  4. If the battery life still is not meeting the advertised Talk time (with minimal use), the device will need to be repair/replacement.
Device won't Power on
  1. Attempt to charge the device.
    • If the battery is dead, the device will need to charge for a few minutes and then should power on once this happens.
  2. Attempt to power the device on by pressing the Power Button for 3-5 seconds.
    • If the device doesn't power in, perform a Soft Reset using the stylus.
  3. If the device still doesn't power on, perform a Hard Reset.
  4. Try another battery.
  5. If the device still will not power on, it can then be considered for repair/replacement.
Handset Powers off

  1. Make sure that the device is actually powering off and not just going into hibernate mode by pressing the power button once.
    • If the screen comes back on, the device is not powering down.
  2. If possible, check the battery level by going to Start>Settings>More>Power>Power Management.
    • The charge should be no lower than 10%; if it is, charge the device and retest.
  3. Try another battery in the device.
    • If the device stays powered on with a different battery, the issue is with the accessory not the unit.
  4. If the device still powers off with another battery, Hard Reset the device and retest.
    • If the issue remains after the Hard Reset, the device it can then be considered for repair/replacement.

  • The driver for the device is faulty. When you plug in a USB device, the computer should load and then configure the device without ever requesting a device driver. If the computer prompts you for a device driver, check the information that came with the device or go to the manufacturer's website to see if a driver is available.
  • The USB port might be defective. If the USB device is connected to a defective port, the device will not work. Try plugging the device into a different port. If all the USB ports are being used, unplug a device that you know works, and then plug the problem device into the port that device was using.
    If the device is plugged into a secondary USB hub with other USB devices, unplug the device from the hub, and then plug the device directly into a port on your computer.
  • Other USB devices might be drawing too much power from the hub. The device you are trying to use might require all the available power or bandwidth that your computer can provide. If other USB devices are connected to the computer and are drawing power from it, the first device might not work. If any other devices are drawing power from the hub, try disconnecting them, and then see if your device works. If this solves the problem, you might want to obtain a USB hub with its own power supply so that you have adequate power for all devices.

    Garmin Nuvi 300 does not switch on. The wrong charger was used


    1. If using the power/data cable to power your device:
    1. Make sure you have power at the source it is connected to.
    2. Check the fuse in the power cable.
    3. Use a volt meter to test the end which plugs into your device (the manual for the device should show which pins are power and ground. Make sure you are getting at least 12 volts of power. This will ensure you are getting full power through the cable and determine if the cable is faulty.
    2. If using a 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter:
    1. Check the fuse in the adapter.
    2. Make sure the cigarette lighter in the vehicle has power by connecting another device with a different 12 volt adapter if possible.
    3. Make sure the metal tip on your 12 volt adapter is still connected
    3. If using batteries:
    1. Make sure none of the battery terminals are still connected to the device.
    2. Try new batteries.
    3. Make sure the batteries fit tightly inside the device. This will ensure the battery terminals are not loose and you have good contact.
    4. If you are powering the device on the built in lithium ion battery:
    1. If you have a power cable for the device, plug it into a power source and see if the device will power on with direct power. If it powers on, check to see if the battery is fully charged.
    2. If it is not, let the battery fully charge and then try to power it on with just the battery.
