If Encryption is turned on in the WRT54G and you don't have the key, you could try resetting the router to default settings and starting over. There is a small hole on the rear of your router with "Reset" over it, just hold the button inside the hole down for at least 10 seconds with the WRT54G powered on and you'll see the lights go out indicating the reset took place, then power down router, modem, and PC, then with all components connected after a minute boot the Modem then Router and then your PC.

I hope this helps and good luck.

My laptop and my iphone indicate that my wireless-g broadband router is putting out a wireless signal; but neither accessory works on the network, even though the bars are entirely full on the devices.

The bars on your laptop or iPhone means that you are connected to the router! Not necessarily to internet. Your internet depends on ISP Internet service provider and modem which connected to your router. To check if you have active internet connection connect your laptop directly to modem provided by your ISP with ethernet cable and try to open a internet browser IE or Safari or Chrome or Firefox and open a webpage! If you are able to connect internet by this mean you have internet connection active. Now disconnect your lap top from modem and connect modem to your Linksys router using WAN port of LINKSYS! Its good to power off and power on (power cycle) once on modem and router to make it work!
good luck!

How do I hook up my linksys to my desk top pc (XP) so I can run my lap top from upstairs

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

My WRT54GC router suddenly stop passing internet through it after 4 years of uninteruped service. But all the LED s are on as they should be. I can not get either wired (my desk top) or wireless (lap top)...

Has your modem been hard reset recently? if so, it may require that you bridge the modem out to work with the router- ESP. if you use Verizon DSL. If so, contact your ISP, and ask for assistance in bridging out the modem.

When i am connecting with BSNL modem its working fine but if i plug in linksys wireless router i am not able to connect through internet

BSNL is ADSL connection, and you will need the username and the password from BSNL to get the Router working with the Modem, make sure you have the Correct username and password from your ISP which is BSNL, that will fix your issue.

Problem with Lynksys WRT54-G

This is a common problem with the Linksys wireless router. You will need to reset your ISP device, meaning the ADSL router, or Cable modem, reset the Linksys device, and reboot your computer in that order.

Next you "should" release the IP address of your computer once it reboots to Windows (assumed). To do this you click on RUN, type in CMD to get a DOS window. From that window type in "ipconfig /release" without the quotes. Then close the window. Reboot the comptuer again.

You will NEXT need to determine which device is acting as the DHCP server, the ISP device or the Linksys device. To do this you will need to open up the CMD window again but type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotes. If your ISP device is listed first, then it is likely the server for all available IP adress on your local network. This means that the Linksys has been assigned a new IP address. The Linksys must be the DHCP server in this case so that it may be accessed through 192.168.1.1 from your browser address.

To make the Linksys the DHCP server, you must connect your ISP device to the Ethernet uplink port on the back of the Linksys router. The Linksys router may then be connected to a Ethernet hub or act as your hub if you have no other.

I hope this shines some light on the problem.

I think Not.
There are ADSL wireless routers however.
I guess your purpose is to make your ADSL modem available wirelessly, you can connect the
modem via lan line to the wireless and use that as a router.

Setting up linksys adsl2 modem

The ADSL, Ethernet, and USB ports are located at the back of a Linksys modem. These ports are where the phone cable and computer will be connected. The ADSL Line should be connected to the ADSL port and the computer either be connected to Ethernet or the USB port., If u r using a ethernet cable no need to run the setup cd just connect the ethernet cable and contact ur isp..
do not worry about ur sagem modem, let it be inside.. just connect ethernet cables alone..

To setup a Linksys ADSL Modem with usb cable you need to perform two steps:
  1. Connecting the Devices Together
  2. Installing the USB Driver
Connecting the Devices Together
Step 1:
Connect the phone cable to the wall jack with ADSL service and then connect the other end to the ADSL port of the modem.
Step 2:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Step 3:
Connect the USB to the USB port on the back of the modem and then connect the other end top the USB port of the computer.
Step 4:
Power on the modem. After connecting the device together, install the USB driver. For instructions, follow the steps below.
Installing the USB Driver
Step 1:
Power on the computer.
Step 2:
When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears. Click Install the software automatically (Recommended).
NOTE: Windows XP has pre-installed drivers for the ADSL2MUE and will automatically install the USB driver for the modem.
Step 3:
Click Finish.
