Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Elite He3t Washer. The latest issues I'm having is that when I push "normal wash", the washer automatically illuminates and selects the next cycle on the dial ", i.e.- "Heavy Duty". If I select "Heavy Duty", then it shifts to the "whitest Whites" function. This seems to just malfunction this way at random. Also, I now pushed the button to add clothes, after the cycle started. After it beeped and clicked, I added clothes, closed the door and pressed start again. Nothing happens. The time just keeps blinking on the display. Now it won't clear, restart, reset or anything! Any Ideas?

I'm inclined to believe it could be a faulty board, more than just some needful cleaning. This self selection issue has been going on for some time. It began 1 month after my warranty ended and I just lived with it until this latest issue came up, rendering the use of the washer useless. I thought about unplugging it, to see if it would force a rest, but I also want the service guy to see what it's doing- if I need to call one out. What do you think of the "random" dial selection I mentioned? This can't be an overlapping contact because it doesn't happen all the time. Something seems to trigger this malfunction and I just haven't been able to pinpoint the action yet. These are just some of the mechanical issues I've had with this unit. I've long had issues with it's cleaning capabilities because it seems like all of my bath towels have a "musty" odor to them now...since using this machine. I've seen some posts online where others experience this too...they say it's the type of detergent being used. I've changed detergents, but to no avail. I'm just wondering how many others have experienced these issues and why Sears isn't doing anything about them.

Hmmm; Ok, I'll see what I can do. The machine is rendered inoperable now, so i'll try to force reset it first. Thanks.

It sounds like a key is intermittently making contacts or stuck or it is just an electronic glitch. Unplug the for at least half hour or so to forcibly reset the control microprocesor and eliminate the possibilty of an electronic glitch. Remove top panel and then the console and check and clean every key switch. Also check and make sure the user interface harness is fully inserted to both the user interface and the central control unit and the connectors. Reseat the connectors several times to clean off dirt and corrosion built-up.

The only viable solution once all else fail is the replacement of the user interface board. Indicate the exact model number of the machine should you need further advice. You don't have to accept or reject and rate this post in order to add information or post comments and follow-up questions. But accepting a solution will not stop you from communicating with an expert. You may continue communicating with the expert as long as you need assistance regarding the issue stated herein.

The random automatic dial selection can be attributed to electrical noises in the line or in the wires routed over the board. The electrical noise can be self-induced or coming from the other parts of the house electrical circuitry. Electric motors and other inductive or capacitive loads in the house not properly grounded and without electrical noise filters can be a source of such electrical noises and affect the machine although is installed with a noise filter. Self-induced noises can be due to poor electrical connections in the machine particularly the noise filter itself and improper routing of wires.

Excessive Shaking

Possible solutions... level, if on pedestal, make sure its tightly secure to washer, wash like size materials, larger items might wrap smaller items causing a ball or heavier on one side.. good luck.

HE3t wont start

open the top access panel, 3 screws in top rear.
start washer
push up gently on one of the center black wired connectors that connect to the control unit (in back top of washer)
if it starts to work then the relays on the control circuit board need to be re-soldered . a normal reoccurring issue
its rarely the latch

Kenmore elite he3 - door lock

If sound like a lid switch issue. Open the top of the washer to get an access to the lid switch(located near the doorframe). Look for a loose wire or a broken switch. In case there is no loose wire or broken switch, you should replace the switch. Good luck!
