Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My 2005 FRIGIDAIRE PLHS69EESS2 side by side will not freeze. The fridge is fine. The freezer is staying at 30 degrees. The ice maker has not made ice in a few weeks. The freezer began loosing its cool about 3 days ago. The fan next to the coils on the back side is not turning and the condenser seems overly warm. I have cleaned the underside and am not sure what else I should do. Any advise would be helpfull.

Hello,

Check the thermostat for temperature setting. Make sure your freezer is not too stuffed and that there is enough space for air flow. Check for the restriction of air flow in the vents. Clean the coils of the condenser if found clogged. Also look out for clogged drain tube and if there is a leakage of the refrigerant. Test various components such as temperature control knob, evaporator fan, defrost timer and the door switch.

One of the most common freezer problems is the malfunction of the condenser coil. This generally arises when the coil is excessively dirty. It makes the freezer cool improperly. Cleaning the condenser coil with a brush or cloth can be an effective solution to this problem. Make sure to unplug the freezer before you start any cleaning.

Also, make sure that the evaporator coil and fan are working properly. Check for any damage or blocking to the blades o the fan or the coil. To check if the connectors are damaged, carefully remove all the screws of the evaporator fan and with a needle nose pliers, remove the wires from the connectors. See if the connectors are corroded or damaged and get them replaced if needed. Connect the wires and the blades of the fan back using the freezer manual.

Take care.

Hi Gary,

If your evaporator is not completely frosting over (top to bottom) this normally means the unit doesn't have a proper charge or the compressor can't pump all the freon as it needs to. I would check the charge, this should read "0", if less not enough, if higher than the compressor is failing. I hope this helps.

On a frigidaire model frs26lh5ds1 side by side prost proof, the ice maker doesn't make ice. the water drips down into the tray and freezes there. any suggestions?

Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking same part needs replaced. The water valve at the bottom rear of fridge
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Check the door gaskets, condenser fan, refrigerator fan and the freezer fan. That should narrow down the problem.

Frigidaire side by side doesn't make ice

If the Temperature in the Freezer is not cold enough, the Ice maker will not make ice. Make sure the freezer is below 10 degrees or so. Zero is where you want it for the best ice production. What was the reason for defrosting in the first place? Should be frost free?

Frigidaire Fridge PLHS69EESS2

Could be a jammed fan or something could have moved inside to block the opening. Some units have deflectors in the openings...did one of those cover the opening on the fridge side? Did you overpack your freezer and block the air flow from there to the fridge?
