Question about Denon AVR-1906 Receiver

2 Answers

The power on my denon av-1570 amp keeps on cutting out and the power light is red and flashing. I've looked at the troubleshooting section of the manual and it recommends I turn it off for a period letting it cool and check the speaker wires to make sure they are not touching each other. I have done this and it still cuts out. Any idea what I should do?

If your amp looks like it's going to work as normal (ie the front display lights up as it should etc), but then the amp goes into protection mode when the anti-thud circuit times out, then I know what's likely to be wrong.

It's one of the power amplifier channels which has gone faulty.

I just found this out after having this problem with my AVR-1906.

I took the amp apart and de-soldered the suspected channel power transistors (centre channel in my case).....and hey-presto! it fired up as normal (obviously the centre channel would be out of service).

I have ordered the replacement transistors from Farnell (UK) at a miserly cost of around £2-£3 each.

Just waiting for them to arrive.

An alternative is, if you don't use all your channels, take the transistors from a known working but not needed channel and swap them over with the duff ones.

Hope thats of use!

Power keeps cutting off. stays on for 3 seconds

Could be either a problem with the amp or a bad voltage regulator. Hard to tell without checking some things inside.

If the front display does not light up at all when the press the power button, it is usually either the main power fuse or the power transformer. If the fuse is blowing, that usually means a short in the amp section.

AVR-789 powers down with red flashing light

This is an indication that there is an overload problem in the output section of the amplifier. The overload could be thermal or electrical The overload circuit has built-in protection to help keep the amp from burning itself out. disconnect all speakers and cables from the unit and power it up. If the problem still exists, it is internal and will need to be repaired bya professional technician. If the problem goes away, check for shorted, crossed wires to your external speakers. Try different wires and speakers.
Hope this helps.

I have a Denon 1708 receiver. When I push the "on" button, either on the unit itself or using the remote, the light flashes green for a few seconds, then flashes red. When it turns red, all of the info...

Your result indicates the unit is not passing its power up self test. The first thing to try would be to remove all connections to the unit and try to power up. If it still mis-behaves, the unit has an internal problem best left to pros unless you're pretty good digging through circuitry. If it comes up stable, then reconnect things one at a time until the issue occurs again. Detach the offending connection and look for issues in the cables or the connected unit.

Power cuts off suddenly, the power light flashes red quickly. i checked all wires are secure, none frayed or touching metal.. any ideas what 2 check or what could be source of problem?

You have a power supply problem as one of the +15v or -15v Regulators are bad. This is easy replaced at your local denon service shop.

Power Button Flashing Red

Try unplugging the entire unit and letting it sit for 5 minutes. See if this helps. If not, you need to do a complete reboot, which will cause you to lose your settings, but will probably solve your problem. To do a complete reboot, you will need to hold down two of the front bottons on the front panel. I'm not sure which, so either consult your manual or see other posts here which describe the reboot process for Denons. Hope this helps.

Playstation3 and Denon AVR-1804

If you don't have a user guide, go to:
usa.denon.com From there, you can click on Support and search for archived info...you will find a pdf there.

Of your five plugs, a red and white next to each other will plug in to the audio in on your denon (Red is for Right) I would use something like the VCR-3 pair on the left side of the rear panel. The other three, Red Green and Blue are for Video Component In on the denon; Use either Video-1 or Video-2 in the component section on the right half of the rear panel.

At his point, it will be best to look at the manual, because you will have to pair the two items together in the menu system. It takes a little patience but isn't too hard.

Good luck.
