Question about Speed Queen AWS52NW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Draining water from inside through center.

It's a SPEED QUEEN commercial heavy duty extra. Started to leaking water in much quantity through the agitator, I think through the seal kit. It's old washer, at least +8 years old.

My question is if it' s the problem, is it cheap to fix and not extensive nor special tools.

Please, answer me truly. Thanks

It sounds like a tub seal and it's generally not an expensive job, but it can be labor intensive if you've never repaired one of these before. Replacing the tub seal requires the removal of the exterior cabinet, the agitator, wash tub rim, suspension springs, inner wash basket and the outer wash tub. The only special tool needed is a wrench that you use to remove the spanner nut on the inner wash basket, I believe. In addition, sometimes the agitator sticks on the older washers and can become difficult to remove. I cannot predict how this will be on your washer, but they can become damaged and also require replacement. You asked me to be truthful, so it's up to you in deciding if it's worth effort. If you post back with your model number I can get an idea of the washer's age and how it is assembled. It may be easier than we think. I'm giving you the worse case scenario, because I just don't know yet.

The tub seal kit is $85 USD, You will also need a drive bell kit$23 USD, you should replace the upper bearing $?, for a complete rebuilt I would also replace the brake pads all three, and the belt, maybe the pump if it doesnt come off easily. Plus what you break taking it apart, so we are looking @ least $150.

Yes you can do it yourself, you dont need the tub wrench if you can borrow a deep socket, its the drive bell seal tool you really need.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. the serial number will tell you the age first two digits are year next two are month, starts with and R, built in Ripon WI.

The water flowing into my speed queen is vert slow

The to ensure that the water valves at the inlets are fully open. If they are, then shut them off and remove the hoses from the supply to the washer. There is usually a small metal screen-type filter in the connection at the back of the washer for each hose. These may be clogging up. They can be carefully removed, cleaned, and reinstalled.

Good day, can you please help, I want to know what can be the problem. Our speed queen heavy duty washing machine leaks water when spining. The water leak is at the top of the outer tub where the clips...

The basics would be make sure it's clean, the outer and inter ring of this area holds and builds up dirt and debris over time, causing a bad seal, also has to spin and be balanced properly or it will leak a little. ...

Does the top loader heavy duty machine have a filter and does it need to be cleaned regularly. If so, where is it located?

No filter to be cleaned in the machine. There are however small wire mesh filters in the screw on connectors that connects the water hoses to the machine at either the tap side or where it are connected to the machine inlets. Unscrew the hoses from the tap and machine inlets and check both hose ends if the wire filters are not to clog up over time resulting in slow water filling of the machine. Remove carefully and clean with a nylon brush. Replace again.

With the age of the machine, although Speed Queen's are built like a tank, the suspension systems are one of the most worked systems on a clothes washer,so, that being said, I would check all related parts of the suspension system, springs, pivot, etc,.these parts do get tired, think of the amount of loads of clothes that you have run through the washer over those 15 years.

Good Luck !

28+ year old- Speed Queen Heavy Duty top loader

It sound like you drain hose is siphoning off the rinse water, It needs a standpipe make sure the drain hose is at about the height of the top of the washer, Make sure the drain hose isnt stuck in the drain it also needs an air cap. the drain hose should not lay on the floor to run to the drain

Please let me know if this doesnt solve your problems
