The individual settings are function based. That is to say that if you select a stitch that is for a straight tack, the machine will not select a sideways pattern.
Look again at your settings, and make sure the right function is set.
Having the correct foot on the machine is also paramount, or you could rip the material or break the needle.

Singer inspiration. When using zipper foot. Excess amount of thread on bottom of material, very loose and loopy. Wasting alot of thread for such a some task.

Your top threading is not right, check to make sure that your thread hasn't jumped out of a guide. Totally rethead with the presser foot up, now pull thread, it should move smoothly, next put the presser foot down, the thread should barely move. This will seat your thread in the tension discs. If, that does not work, insert a new needle.

I cannot ge the bobbin case to stay in for my

unscrew the black plate that holds the bobbin case in place and move it over (to the left) ust a tiny bit. It still needs wiggle room, but moving that plate should help it stay in better.

Fabric Guide

The above is a picture of the fabric guide in use; it slides into top portion of your presser foot shank. It can be used in either direction for guiding uniform stitch lines.
Hope that helps! Happy sewing!
