Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

Open Question

Hi, My wife's Bernina Minimatic keeps on running when it is plugged it in. My electronics knowledge is not too bad but I'm not an expert; I already tried to disconnect the capacitor (with the 4 wires) located at the motor, but it is still doing the same. So I think the problem is maybe withing the pedal. It is continiously running at the low speed and when you push the pedal it runs faster. When you release the pedal it is returning to the low speed again. But it keeps on running. In the pedal there is a only a few electronical components and the circuit seems quite simple. Does anyone know where the problem might be? And if what component it would most likely be, so that I can exchange it? Thanks!!!

Have you been oiling the bearings per the guide? Try to isolate the upper mechanism versus the lower by rocking the handwheel and observing which causes the bind (take the bobbin and needle thread off to prevent jamming). You may have to remove some of the covers to see most of it. As long as no gearing becomes shifted or uncoupled, you should not cause trouble. Try taking the motor belt off to see if the motor itself may be binding. Good to see people keeping old, but still working machines running

SOURCE: How do I use the button hole foot on the Bernina

There isn't an automatic button hole on this machine. You can do it manually. Thread the bobbin thread as usual, but put it through the little hole on the hook in the bobbin case. Set the stitch length between 0 and 1, like a nice satin stich. Set the needle position to the far left and the stitch width to 2. Sew down the left side. Center the needle, set the width to 4 and lower the feed dogs, stitch about 6 stitches across the bottom. Then reverse the direction, set the needle to the right, stitch width to 2 and go back up the right side. Lower the feed dogs again, set a wide stitch and finish the top.

Another good option is to buy a universal presser foot shank from Bernina and then attach an old cam type buttonhole attachment from Singer. They make beautiful buttonholes and you can even do a keyhole button hole.

I have a Bernina Minimatic 807 which has stood idle for some time. It will run for a couple of minutes and then lock solid. I have oiled it, cleaned the shuttle and bobbin areas but it is no better.

........Start by removing the bobbin and bobbin case.
........The old grease is most likely hard.
.........Open the upper and lower areas and clean up all of the grease. Real hard debrees can be removed with carburetor cleaner.
........While turning the hand wheel you can spray this on parts to loosen the grease. Use qtips to remove the debrees.
........Use qtips that have been sprayed with carburetor cleaner to clean the plastic where the dried grease and filth is at. Try not to use carburetor cleaner on the plastic as much as possible.
........When the cleaning is finished use sewing machine oil on all parts that are steel against steel movement. (Not plastic or rubber).
........ For plastic against plastic use lithium or 100 % synthetic oil. These can be used in place of the grease because they don't become hardened due to wear and time.

How is it possible to replace the light bulb in the Bernina minimatic 807? I managed to remove the dead bulb, but cannot install the new one

Try using rubber gloves, like surgical gloves and moisten them slightly. Usually, that will provide enough grip while trying to insert it. Very difficult from experience. But, can be done.

There is a bulb insertion accessory tool included with some newer machines (although not Bernina--another brand) that is basically like a cut-off plastic chopstick with a suction device on the end. If you are creative, you may be able to fashion something of your own.

My bernina 707 minimatic..isn't working!! My needle keeps getting seized an won't move up an down...Then when i try to sew it sews blanks....

Replace the needle.
Make sure the needle is inserted the right way. If the needle is installed the wrong direction the machine will get stuck.

Check and correct tension of the bobbin. (Guide attached)

Start the top tension at four and adjust as needed.

When threading do it with the pressure foot up so any snags can be felt. If there are snags they must be corrected. While threading, little tugs of the thread along the way will help. The snags can be felt this way.

The needle thread on my bernina minimatic keeps breaking.

There is special thread for denim/jeans. It usually comes in shades of brown. It's a little heavier and might help with the breakage. You might also want to try a little less tension. I assume you already have a Schmetz denim needle?
