Outside unit is continually on. Only way to stop it is to disconnect inside and outside units from the power. The unit has worked correctly until recently.

Sounds like your contactor has welded shut. Everytime your condensing unit turns on, you'll have a an arc of electricity across the contactor. Over time, the arcing causes to contactor to become covered in cardon. When it gets to a certain resistance across the coil, it will weld shut and the comressor and outdoor fan will run forever until the bad contactor gets replaced. If you know what a contactor is, it's a simple fix and the price is about $20 bucks. If your unsure about replacing it yourself, by all means can an HVAC contractor to replace it. 240 volts is not something you want to mess with unless you know what you are doing

Is the furnace fan (indoor fan ) running. If not the problem is with the inside unit. It supplies the control power to operate the entire system and has a control fuse on the circuit board. If it is running but not the outside unit then the problem is outside.

Rudd Acheiver 13 nothing turns on outside but the fan inside is

Try pushing the red reset button at the outdoor unit near the brass service valves (where the refrigerant lines enter the outdoor unit). Also check for power from circuit breakers furnishing power to the outdoor unit ( the indoor unit has a seperate power supply source ). There may be fuses in the service disconnect box mounted near your outdoor unit. If those "blow" they will prevent operation of your outdoor unit. You can test continuity using an ohmmeter. If you do not have an ohmmeter, you can take the fuses to the local hardware store. They should be able to test them for you and offer replacements if needed. If after doing all these steps you continue to have problems, let us know and we will dig a little deeper. :-)

Hello, I have a 1.5 ton rudd ac/heat pump

Your outside unit is not defrosting. You need to call a service tech to check it out. Defrost board sensor or low on gas. Also you amy have an outside tstat that is not working correctly. Rus

My blower inside my house will not come on. outside unit either

Initially, it doesn't sound like your thermostat is working.
If it has a setting to allow the blower (air mover) to be operated alone or continuously, try that.
Generally, if the inside unit (air mover) won't power up, the outside unit will not turn on for more than a couple of minutes because if the inside unit isn't working, pressure builds up in the lines going to the outside unit and an over-pressure sensor will shut it down again.

Window A/C Air Filter is Soaked

There is a drain tube that usually runs to the outside that is suposed to carry the water away from the unit. It may be plugged. You could use a shop-vac from the outside to pull it through. If you have compressed air you can blow the obstruction out to the inside. Be aware this could make a mess on the inside! After clearing the drain line I would leave the unit off for an hour or so just in case there was any frost building. Then turn the unit back on. If it continues to get wet then the unit may not be leveled correct, or maybe it is low on refrigerant causing the frost on the inside.

Outside unit not working

If the heating and cooling is working O.K. and maintaining the proper temperatures it is possible that your outside unit is in its off cycle. If the inside unit is running and the outside unit is not with an elevated temperature inside check the power supply to the outside unit. Most units have a disconnect located near them. Check the disconnect and make sure it is set to the on position. Listen for a hum noise at the outside unit which could indicate that the control power is being supplied to the contactor.

I have a colman ac unit and the outside unit will not come on. i hear it clicking but nothing happens

On my computer screen these two problems are not the same.

To "garys2003" Clicking you hear is the contactor closing in calling for cooling. If no power is being supplied to the outside unit high voltage the unit will not run. Check your circuit breaker or fuses in the outside power box. If the outside power box is of the non-fused disconnect, check that the disconnect is inserted properly.

To Trenina: Is your unit a self contained unit outside ducted to the inside as with a Mobile Home. If so your evaporator cooling coil may be frozen over stopping air movement, turn the cooling off and set your fan to on until it defrosts, then return to normal operation and leave the fan on during cooling.

If nothing comes on inside as with a central A/C system you may have a problem with the blower motor itself.

No cooling after power out, indicator lights pattern not in manual

The Mitsubishi units have to be reset by turning off the indoor units by switching the remote or thermostat to off. Then turn off the breaker to the outside unit(s). After 30 seconds, turn on the breaker and then you can turn on the remote for cool. If no lights come on on the inside units, most likely you have blown a fuse soldered on the main PC board. At this point, call your technician. A goos tech will be able to wire in an in-line fuse holder so if it should happen again, you can easily replace the fuse. If you do see a light or two come on at the indoor unit but the outdoor unit does not start after 3 or 4 minutes, sounds like you will need to call a technician. Most likely you have a blown fuse on the main PC board of the outside unit. It is not an easy one to replace. Good Luck!
