Question about E-Mu 1820M Sound Card
E-mu 1820m Windows 7 = No sound. I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I recently was sent the e-mu 1820m with sound dock. I installed all of the hardware/software updated the drivers to the the latest drivers from e-mu and creative. I am now using the beta driver for windows 7 released on june 10th 2010. I have searched forums and sites like this one. I have tried changing the default to 44.1khz in both the sound devices panel and the emu patch mix dsp. I have un installed, re-installed, tweeked and finally reset everything to defaults. I have checked that the power connected to the pci card it is fine and the dock lights up. The timing clock is locked and it keeps connection. I have the E-mu set as my default sound card. Nothing I can do makes a sound. When I boot the computer on and the emu turns on it get the power on pop. Windows says everything is enabled and working properly. I beg to disagree. If I switch back to my integrated sound everything is fine. Except of course that i cannot record anything near the quality i need for vocals and music. heeeeelp!

replace the mlan cable provided with a short length cat5 cable - this sorted out my problem.
The noise damping rings on the mlan where too much - the cat 5 cale is fine just keep it away from sources of noise such as high voltage cables, fans etc.

"I am running windows XP proffessional 5.1 on a HP (compaq) dc7600.
Could this be the problem?"
It could be. Bring up your system properties box (Windows key + Pause/Break key). Is that the version shown at the top right on the GENERAL tab?
Is there some reason you have not installed service pack 2 or 3? Of course if you're running an illegal copy of Windows you can't, but I mean any legitimate reason? If we can eliminate the problem with installing the latest service packs we can move forward.

I had the same problem with everything installed, icons on the screen etc...I took my stuff to my computer wizard and he came with the following solution which is:
Make sure that you have a Windows XP "SP2 or GREATER" this is the kicker.Go to the requirements sheet if you need more info.
Anyway I did that upgrade from SP1 to SP2 and it works like a charm with pristine sound.
Good luck fellows.

SOURCE: I've got the same damn problem
Download and install the latest V2.1 Patchmix DSP Application and also the V2.1 Audio System Driver from EMU at
Have you been downloading and applying any updates from Microsoft recently? If you have downloaded and installed both of the above then you should check the function of the board via System manager and Device Manager to see if there are any errors or conflicts showing and if so resolve them.
As you say it takes a long time to load initially you may want to uninstall the application and driver then run a registry clean to make sure that there are not multiple instances of the EMU in the registry as this will cause contention issues that could exhibit the behaviour that you are seeing. Ashampoo at www.ashampoo.com will do an excellent job if you need one you can do it for free for 30 days.
You may also be experiencing a lack of memory in the system – you can never have enough, your hard disk may be nearing capacity and also may need defragmenting – again the Ashampoo will do an excellent job. Also take a look at how much swap space is allocated and increase its size and change it’s location to a quiet disk if you can – preferably not one being hammered with sound data.
Then reinstall the EMU driver and app.
