Usually it is blue.
Reboot your PC. Look at the monitor's power button, if it goes green, then you have a video signal from your PC. If it stays amber, then your PC is not sending a video signal.

Also consider checking the connection of your monitor. The power plug has been know to come loose.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

You probably mean 'blue screen of death'. There are too many possibilities to list, but let's start with is it a blue screen with white lettering? If so there are several 'error stop codes' that "should" point you in the right direction. You can view these here. These can be anything as simple as a device driver problem to a bad motherboard.

If you are getting a completely black screen but can hear the computer running, I'd suspect a bad video cable, monitor, video card or video chipset (the latter is built into the motherboard and can usually be circumvented by adding a video card). Try a different cable or monitor if possible (always make sure your PC is turned completely off before removing any plug other than USB). If this doesn't work, you can buy a cheap 'PCI' video card for about $10-15.

If the computer just doesn't turn on I'd suspect (almost always) a bad power supply. You should be able to find a new one for under $25. Just make sure it has the all same connectors as the original.
