Question about HP Business Inkjet 2200 Printer

HP 2200 business inkjet. Magenta ink is somehow slowly leaking into the bottom of the cartridge bay. Removing each ink cartridge, there is a trace of liquid magena ink on bottom of cartridge that I wipe off with kleenex. I have replaced the magenta cartridge with a brand new cartidge but this hasn't solved the leak. Seems worse after a printing session. Printing is not affected, but left alone, the small magenta ink leak will drip out the bottom of the ink cartridge bay and the mess has to be wiped up every day or so Where and how is this leak occurring? I cannot see any leak on the magenta cartridge when it is removed.

Alright, try this:

Turn the unit off and disconnect from your computer, take all the cartridges out and plug the unit back in, The selectors inside should relocate themselves, unplug it once again and re-insert the cartridges, restart your computer[just in case], plug it all back in and retry, if that does not work; reply.

Try turning it off then on again, usually that helps. Did you took out the label you are supposed to take off?

1.Try placing sheet of Magenta print on copy board, and run many copies .  Run head clean after about each 50 sheets.

put the printhead in cleaning windows liquid by a few hours, this will disolve clogged valvles, easy and cheap, it works. Dont sumergeall the acrtridge only a 2 mm.

Magenta cartridge leaked for some unknown reason. when we replaced it, it says the new cartridge is empty. Please help.


My friend the cartridge which leaked earlier has spilled ink in side on the contacts of the printer where the smart chip comes in contact. Try to clean well with a tissue paper and try to insert slowly into the printer and this will solve the problem.

If not then carefully remove the smart chip from the old one and replace it with the new and install back in the printer.

HP Business Ink jet 1200. Yellow cartridge lite is on. Changed cartridge, but lite is still on,

Ink cartridge lights: Black, Blue, Magenta, Yellow

When light is on - ink is low (below 25%)
When light is flashing - out of ink - printer stops - replace cartridge

To get a printer status / configuration report press the info button (to the left of the on button)

the error's you were getting on the CIS could have been from the chip. Try setting the date back on the computer or on the printer back 1 year. See if that makes a difference (if you still have the CIS and the printer). Best advice, get an updated chip.

Photosmart C5280. Instructions on photo cartridge 348 say remove both black and colour cartridges, then install photo cartridge in right hand cartridge holder. Printer screen then tells me to install...

Your printer uses the following cartridges:

HP 74 - Black ink
HP 75 - Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow ink
HP 99 - Photo Black, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta

You need Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta to print photos. To accomplish this you install the HP 99 photo cartridge where your HP 74 black cartridge usually goes and you keep the HP 75 color cartridge where it's at. I don't know why your printer told you to remove both cartridges, then reinstall the HP 75 color cartridge.

this printer uses a HP 57 color cartridge. INSTRUCTIONS are : 1) place a paper towel over surface you will work on. 2) get disposable hand gloves , 3) remove carefully the top label of cartridge (do it slowly to avoid tearing) put it aside , your going to need it to put it back. 4) with the electrical golden dots strip side facing you , the top LEFT side hole is CYAN color , RIGHT side hole is YELLOW , and middle hole (close to you) is MAGENTA . Push the FILLING TUBE about halfway down into the cartridge, be careful not to damage the ink chamber at the bottom of cartridge. squeeze bottle (tube) in a slowly manner until the chamber is full . hope this helps AJ

Can I print "Black only on the Epson BX 300 F ?

Since the printer insists on having all 4 cartridges (non-empty) fitted before it will print anything, the only recourse to fitting new cartridges is to fool the printer into thinking your empty magenta cartridge has ink in it. You can do this by using a cartridge resetting tool to reset the magenta cartridge chip so it reads "full". A resetter tool can be obtained from e-bay very cheaply (£4 or less). You will find sellers who ship worldwide on E-Bay UK.

Be aware though, that if you forget to select monochrome printing, the colour ink is also used in black printing - and printing with a "dry" cartridge can damage the print head. You can guard against this by filling your magenta cartridge with distilled water.

You will also find sellers of magenta cartridges (and the others of course) on E-Bay UK who ship worldwide.

Changing the printhead

FYI: The L7590 doesn't have any tape on either the cartridge or the printhead.

Right couple of things here...

1. The printheads in the L7590 are either K/Y (black/yellow) or C/M (cyan/magenta)... There's no single black printhead unless of course this is not an L7590 we're discussing here.

2. The cartridges ARE individual with K, Y M C (Black, Yellow, Magenta and Cyan).

It's likely that the printer has one of the following faults.
  • Chip contacts and/or chips on the cartridges are soiled and/or damaged. Try checking for ink on chips and contacts in the cartridge bay

  • The little white oval pump in the bottom of the cartridge bay has become disconnect or broken. This is used by the printer to pump ink into the printhead but it also detects pressure variations and has a logic circuit which declares low pressure as "no ink".

If the problem is the latter then you need to get the printer serviced and/or repaired at a service center.

If it's the former you should be able to fix it yourself.

If you're using non OEM (ie: not by HP) cartridges I'd recommend getting a new OEM/HP one to test before you go for a service as some cartridges are just poorly filled and/or designed.
