To reset the router you need to press the reset button for about 20 seconds on the back or at the bottom.

After that it will be open to anyone, remember to set up the security settings again or your neighbours might start useing your internet.

The guest access password would be assigned when you (or somebody) installed and configured your router.

In that case, you would need to look at your router configuration to find the password. This is usually done by directing your web browser to your router by typing in a web address something like After you connect and login, you will see screens that show your router configuration and you are looking for something like "wireless access" or "guest access". You will need to know the administrative user id and password of your router to see these screens.

Perhaps you already have other computers or devices (printer, Wii, Roku) connected wirelessly in your home. In that case, use the same wifi password that you used to connect those devices.

If, in fact, *nobody* configured your router (you just brought it home and plugged it in), then the default configuration will be active and you could find the default password in the documentation, either printed or online.

In any case, you could get better answers if you said what brand and model of router you are using.

Maybe your router came from your ISP (telephone or cable company) and they configured it. In this case, you could call their tech support line and ask for the password.

Don t know wifi password for my home

Wireless routers have a pre-set wifi password from the factory and also have a recessed small reset button on the routers. You should look up your specific wireless router online to find out what the factory password is and also how to reset it to that factory password.

After doing so be certain to go back and change the password to something you can remember. Write the password down in a secure location, etc..

Forgotten pre-shared key for D-Link Router

I thought there was a check box in this model that enabled you to see the password/key. If not then you may have to do a factory reset and set-up everything from scratch. Cannot remember if this model has a guest mode, but if the device you are connecting is not critical, TV, BlueRay, Roku etc, then enable the guest mode without a password to connect. These devices will NOT connect to other things on the network, but if they only need internet access it may be OK.

I cannot remember by security code. How do I find it so I can log in?

You will have to do one of two procedures.

The first is to simply reset your router and reconfigure the wireless setup.
To reset, you should have a pin hole on the back that reset's to factory settings.

The other option is to connect to the router with a network cable, you will not need a password to connect to the network this way.
Once connected, you will want to enter the router's home page by typing in the router IP address in a web browser.
Once you are on the router's home page, you can find your wireless password.

I don not remember my password

Are you looking for the wireless password or the
password of the router?
If you want the password of the router, then try
the default password of the router. If the default
password doesn't work then you will need to reset
the router and reconfigure the router.
If you are looking for the wireless network
password, then you will need to open the set up
page of the router. Is there any computer
connected to the router ? If not then you will
need to connect the computer to the router. Or any
other computer which is able to go online using
the router. Check the IP address on that computer.
open the set up page of the router. Set up page of
the router is the page where you will find all the
settings of the router. under the wireless section
you will find the wireless network password
Click here for more information about the routers
and wireless network.

Cannot connect to wireless internet

How did you reset the wireless router back to the factory defaults?
Did you use the Reset button on the back of the D-Link?
The encryption setting is set in the router's wireless configuration.
After the router has been set to the factory default, connect a LAN cable to the wireless router and open IE browser and enter the configuration IP address ( the default login = admin and the PW = blank (just press enter)
Then change to default password so it prevents anyone changing the router's wireless configuration.
The encryption default should be not be enabled.
Change the SSID so you and your guests can identify your wireless router.
You can enable encryption if you wish to prevent unauthorized access, but you need to advise your guests of the encryption key.

We have a guest at our home who wants to use her computer. When she tries to log on it says she needs a password. When I use my laptop there is no pasword request, I just go straight onto the internet?...

It could be that your wireless router has security enabled and doesn't allow "strangers" to connect to the network in your home.

If you can't recall a specific password you might've used to set up the router, try going to the Administrator page and see if the password is there.

I'm not familiar with the DI-514 specifically, but generally you can go to a computer that connects to your network properly, open a web browser and type in the URL box. That's a generic IP address that many wireless routers use. If that doesn't work, try This will take you to an administrator screen. If neither of these work, you'll need to check your manual (Dl-514 Manual) for the correct way to get to the Administrator screen.

When you get to the Admin screen, you enter the user name and password of the administrator for the wireless router. Unless you changed the user name and password when you set the router up, it should be "admin" and the password is empty.

Again, I'm not familiar with the DI-514 specifically, but you can then look around at security and/or password settings to see what the password might be.

In some cases you might have a specific type of security set up on your router like something called "WPA". If this is the case look around for a "key". This key will be a bunch of letters and numbers, and it will need to be entered exactly the same way (cap letters and all) into your guests' computer when asked.

Good luck! Remember to rate the solutions!
