Question about Maytag MSD2454G Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

In the freezer there is a " grill" in the back wall and I can see a heating element. Water is seeping thru the grill into the bottom of the freezer and is collecting and freezing. Some water also makes it out onto the floor. Is there maybe a drain under the element that leads to the drain pan that might be plugged? If so, how do you get to it? Thank you, Ken

Yes there is.
Remove the back panel in your freezer and at the bottom of the evaporator coil you will see a hole about ½" in diameter this is the drain tube. Try using a turkey baster to flush out the drain tube. You might need to use some warm water to melt the ice and then run a wire being very careful not to puncture the hose and run it down the tube to free up the drain. This tube travel down to the bottom of your refrigerator to a pan sometimes located on top of the compressor or somewhere else down there. It collects the water there to evaporate. After cleaning mix a 50 -50 solution of baking soda and water and run some down the drain tube this should help prevent future clogs. This link should help with acessing the drain.

My wonderful oven is malfunctioning. The grill works fine and the fan spins but the oven won't heat up at all. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Sorry Anon, but there are tons of ovens manufactured, so with no make & model I can only suggest that you try to check to see if you have any fuses or breakers popped - You'll have to find these yourself.
Next the grill is the top oven element, the oven heat comes from the bottom element as heat rises. Is this element burned out?
You will need a multimeter and a screwdriver.
Remove the back of the oven, after you have pulled it out from the wall and unplugged it from the wall. Then unscrew whatever portion of the back of the oven that will expose the bottom element, disconnect one end of the element from any wiring of the stove, and using the meter on Resistance setting, see if you get a relatively low resistance reading - If not, then the element may have died.
If you can't figure how to access he ends of the bottom element, then you need to get someone who can help you or sorry, call in an appliance repairman

Once this freezes up how do you defrost it? HUGE MESS

You can use a blow dryer. However if it is freezing up you have a bigger problem. Freezers actually go thru a defrost by use of heat elements in the wall of the freezer. This is where the water comes from that drips in the bottom drain pan. Have a technician replace the element.

If the problem is in the fridge 1: it could be moisture being drawn from unwrapped vegetables. 2: if you have a "wet wall" fridge check no food wrapping is touching the wet wall.

Water seeps out of freezer side of fridg onto the floor, I have totally remover the water line going to the ice maker and it still has water seeping out. It builds up Ice on the bottom of the freezer and...

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. LG Bottom Freezer Frost Issue

It sounds like your defrost controller has gone bad. I have an LFC25760 and had ice build up in the bottom of the freezer such that water would start leaking onto the floor. The ice build up in the bottom of the freezer was due to a failing/bad defrost controller. Behind the back white wall in the freezer compartment exists the cooling fins along with a heating element underneath. Due to moisture that comes into the freezer from opening it, frost/ice builds up on the cooling fins. Thus the defrost controller turns on the heating element to melt the ice/frost off of the fins which then drips into a metal pan which channels the water to a drain hole which drops into the drip pan underneath the fridge next to the fan. The problem is that the defrost controller doesn't keep the heating element on long enough or the cooling cycle comes on too soon thereby freezing the water and plugging up the drain. I had my defrost controller replaced (just outside the warranty period!) and it worked for about 1-month and then same thing happened again. Instead of paying for another defrost controller that would probably not work 100% my serviceman used the old paper-clip trick. He took a paper clip, stretched it out and then wrapped one end around the heating element and placed the other end into the drain hole. Thus when the heating element comes on the paper clip keeps the drain hole warm/hot and prevents the water from freezing. It has been 9 months since this fix and I haven't had any ice pooling in bottom of the freezer.

Viking freezer leaking

you have a clogged drain, it is either clogged with ice or some kind of debris, thaw the freezer out and push a length of weed trimmer line down the drain. The drain is accessible by removing the back wall of the inside of the freezer. If there is no clog then the drain may be freezing up, if that is the case, take a piece of 14 gauge romex wire and loop it several times around the heating element at the bottom of the evaporator and push a few inches of it into the drain, this will get hot and transfer heat when it goes into a defrost cycle which is where the water is coming from in the first place

Freezer stops freezing food - frig stays cool

Possibly sounds like the heating element on your defroster is burnt out or the drain hole for the defroster is blocked, not allowing the defrosted water to drip underneath the fridge to evaporate, thus causing a buildup of ice. That buildup may be blocking that vent that goes bwtn the freezer and fridge. The heating element is simply checked and/or replaced by removing back panel of freezer. It's about the only thing behind that panel and likes like a row of fins. Google images for a better understanding of what you are looking at. If its a block of ice, you know there is a problem. The element is replaced by simply unplugging it and replacing with a new one. You should also see a small hole at the bottom of the freezer. Try pouring a little water in it and listen to see it its running into the plastic pan that's underneath the fridge (usually visible if you take the grill off). Some models have a hose that kinks up attached to this small hole. Had an Amana freezer that did this on several occasions and cause the whole bottom of the freezer to become a block of ice because the water had no where to go.
