Hi.

Re:2"Ive read that it could be the convergance ICs. Could this be?"

That is a complete guess.

The clicking noise is the protection switch that keeps the TV off because a wrong voltage caused by an internal fault has been detected.
This TV does not return error code, and there is no clue on the nature of the problem.

Convergence is a common failure and surely can be one of the possible failures, but you do not replace the two convergence ICs on this ground.
Testing on convergence is done checking continuity on the resistors at the base of the ICs, and on the resistors placed in proximity of the connection between the convergence board and digital controller board (this are sometimes called pico-fuses).

Convergence ICs get replaced without testing only when there is clear evidence of an alignment problem that cannot be fixed with service menu adjustment. In that case the TV is usually working while showing signs that one of the two power amps in convergence board (the STK ICs) has blown.

Unless before failure you had bowed picture or colors not matching, there is no sign of convergence failure. The TV must be tested at component level to find the problem.

I just posted a response to your question and got an immediate back feedback, well thanks, what the...

Evidently you do not need my help and I was simply wasting my time on your TV. Luckily I did not spend time posting service manual or schematics.

    Goodbye.

    Hi Paul.

I am not offended, sorry for being rude. Sometimes I feel that I can still help, but the system offers option to ask to more experts and that confuses the user. It is not your fault, it is Fixya layout, I can never get used to it and sometime I burst.

Replacing the convergence IC without testing is a risk. The most common failure in a rear projection is probably the PSU. Sometimes you can see at a glance if there is a problem. Check the PSU capacitors, if they look bulged, leaky or have a burnt blob coming out from the base, then the capacitors are gone.

Full test on PSU is quite complex.

Other part that commonly fails is the ballast board, that is the board powering lamp or CRT.

I am uploading a service manual that can help you :toshiba_tp48e50,e51,e60,e61_ch_n5ss_[ET].zip

    I will go online soon.

Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board inside the TV. Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You will need to contact a local TV repair person in your area. If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally.

Thanks
Tim

56 in toshiba rear projection tv. When u turn it on the green light comes on and a yellow light flashes 15times followed by a click sound. No picture. What does this mean?

Try going to www.toshiba.com to research your problem and what the 15 flashes of the yellow light means. Try unplugging your TV from the wall for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in. This will re-boot your TV (like re-booting your computer). If still no picture, if could be your bulb, motherboard or color wheel.

Can not get pip to work

Pip has its own tuner, try getting a cable splitter to split the signal into the tv. If you have digital cable you may need a second cable box to do this. If your cable provider still sends an analog signal the splitter will work.

Toshiba TP61E90 projection TV does not turn on.

The second click you hear is the relay turning off because the micro is detecting a condition it does not like. In this case the cause is usually an over current situation usually caused because of faulty convergence output IC's. They have an extremely high failure rate. You will see them mounted on large metal heat sinks built into the chassis. In most Toshibas they are a real bear to get to.

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?
