Hi,

You can configure the "File Type" properties while saving as you will see the explanation in this link.

File Type:
This is where you can change the format that the file will be saved in. If you choose PDF(*.pdf) to scan and save the data in pdf format it will be saved as pdf file.

Hope this helps.

How do I scan more than one page at a time so I have a complete document of 6 pages instead of having 6 different document

you either select add a page, or use the document feeder. The document feeder will try to scan all pages into one file.

I'm finding that the scanning on the brother MFC-7840W creates a big file (a two page document is over 2MB). Is there a way to condense the pdf files?

Hi, you can reduce the file size by decreasing the DPI (dots per inch) or resolution of the scanned image. This can typically either be done from the scanner's control panel or from the software installed on your computer. The less DPI you set it for, the smaller your file will be.

Some scanners will also allow you to compress files. If the MFC-7840W will let you, the option would be in the software program, and it should say "enable file compression" or "enable image compression" or something similar.

Can I scan a document to PDF?

any scanner, indeed any document, picture format can be saved as pdf. i would suggest first scanning the document as text (for example to words, or openoffice or indeed whatever you use as your document management program) and then port it (sort of print operation) to any free available "translator" program which allow you to save file as pdf. alternatively you can scan your document as jpeg and then save it as pdf, but this tend to produce very messy outlook and results are usually horrible.

Scanning to PDF format.

I know that the Brother MFC-7840W came with a program called PaperPort, which will allow you to scan 1 or more documents into a PDF file. Perhaps your scanner supplied the same program.

MCF 6490CW SCAN AS A PDF

I was trying to figure out how to scan multi-page documents to a single file and found this on the Brother website:

Double-click on the ControlCenter3 icon located in the Task Tray to launch the program window.

Click on CONFIGURATION -> SCAN.

Choose the type of scan you require. The choices are: IMAGE,
E-MAIL, and FILE.

The Scan to configuration window will appear.

The SOFTWARE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to button within theControlCenter3 software interface. The DEVICE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to key on the Brother machine. Choose the tab you want to configure.

Under FILE TYPE select an option that allows multi-page documents:

a) PDF (*.PDF)
b) Tiff Multi-Page # Uncompressed (*.tif)
c) Tiff Multi-Page # Compressed (*.tif)

Click OK.

Brother MFC-465CN How can we scan multiple documents?

Hello,

Make a stack of the documents you want to scan and load them in the automatic feeder: The page to scan facing upward, and the top of the page inside. Press the Scan button and start (color or black).
If you choose the pdf format, you will have them in a single file.

Hopr it helps.

Won't recognize legal size paper

I have a Brother MFC-8840Dn (full legal-size flatbed as well as document feeder). I use Windows XP Pro and a USB connection. I'm not sure my fix works with other Brother models or different Windows operating systems, but it's a way to start troubleshooting at least.

I've always been able to print legal-sized pages from word processing or spreadsheet programs and receive legal-sized faxes. But I never could make legal-sized photocopies or PDF scans. The image was always cut off at Letter size. The fix is a Brother Utility set-up setting:

*** Go to Start / All Programs / Brother / MFL-Pro Suite MFC 8840Dn / Scanner Utility. (This link may also be called something like Scanner Settings.)
*** At the "Maximum Scanning Size", select "Legal" instead of "Letter/A4".
*** Click OK and restart your PC for the new setting to take effect.

It's like magic -- I can now scan a full legal-sized PDF, whether on the flatbed or through the ADF. I also tried a compressed TIFF scan and it came out fine.

**** Make sure your software and/or Brother Control Center scanning configurations are set to Legal if that's what you want for the particular image scan. The Brother Utility setting simply enables the option of choosing the larger legal-sized paper, which then allows the full legal-sized image scan, You always have to set your software to make that choice, just as you would to make and print smaller images on Letter, A4, envelopes, etc. (NOTE: I always start scans through software on my PC, like Adobe Acrobat or PaperPort, and the Utility Setting fix is working fine. However, I just tried pressing the SCAN button on the front panel of the MFC itself with a legal-sized document on the flatbed and through the document feeder. I still got Letter-sized image scans. So, there must be another setting somewhere for starting scans directly from the MFC that I'll locate later.)

I was about to buy a different brand of scanner because of the frustration with legal-sized images. It's like having a new scanner now :) I hope this Utility Setting info helps you troubleshoot your legal-sized image problem.
