Lock Button Stuck

I bought a smith corona 240 DLE typewriter and when I turned it on it won't type and the lock button is flashing.

    I have the same problem now with my Smith Corona XL1700, after turning it on, the lock light flashes rapidly and I can't type anything...does anyone know how to fix this?

This usually indicates no ribbon. Check to be sure the ribbon is properly installed or put a new ribbon in.

Try poping off the shift and shift lock key tops to see if the springsb are damaged or sticking down.

My Smith and Corona Typewriter XE 1950 is not responding. The green light on the Lock button is flashing. I have turned off and on and I am not able to type anything. Please help.


Lets get basic. Remove the print wheel look for bent or broken spokes. Try a different ribbon and be sure it is fully seated.

Smith Corona 300 DLE--toggle from italics to normal type


To switch fonts on this typewriter, you need to change the letter wheel. Unfortunately, there is no practical way to change the letter wheel in the middle of a document.

pull the paper release lever and look under the platen as well as you can, to see if there are any forien objects. check if the feed rollers are all in place. the slots in the paper pan under the platen should have rollers in them
