Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2379 Notebook

1 Answer

I have an IBM T40 (2379). Sometimes it boots up, sometimes it doesn't and beeps 4 times at me, but the real problem is that the screen will come on for 3-4 seconds, and then shut off. What could be my problem?

Beeps usually mean there is a problem with your system hardware. 4 beeps usually mean a memory failure, but beep codes vary. Google "beep codes" to get a list of meanings. Lenovo Support has several pages for this. Try HERE

When i try to turn it on it beeps 3-4 times and nothing appearsm on the screen. but i can hear it running

Beep codes will site specific problems. Say it beeps 3-4 times is not specific enough.
One suggestion is to remove the disk drive, memory and any other device. IF the system is OK it should boot to a BIOS screen. If it doesn't, you probably need to replace the computer.

If it boots to BIOS, one at a time replace each component and try to restart. That will identify the failing device.
Hope this information will help.

Hello, i have an IBM net vista PC which is using 4 RIMM memory modules of 256Mb each, i removed one of them and later returned in position but from then henceforth my computer cant boot, instead its...

The IBM beep code indicates no power, loose card, or short. Was the computer unplugged when you removed the module? The first thing I would do is remove all modules, blow out any dust in the memory slots, and reinsert all. While you are in there insure any cards, sound, video, are firmly seated.

My Thinkpad G41 does not boot up, nothing comes up

Hello

Have you tried swapping out ram modules? This would probably be the cheapest. And, a faulty ram module gives a beep code. Try it, and let me know.

Kind regards

Problem with ibm thinkpad r40

The IBM beep code error 1 long 2 short beeps means there is a video card fault. Reseat your RAM because the video card uses some of the RAM. If it doesn't work then the video chip on the motherboard is faulty, the only way to fix is to replace the motherboard - this may not be a cost effective solution.
Connecting an external monitor to the laptop won't work because the video card also sends data to the video port.

I have thinkcenter machine when i boot the machine continous beep is originating first small beep and then continous beep and behave like this and system does not boot please suggest

Yes those beeps are a beep code. The way it is currently beeping means you have a bad RAM stick. Open case and make sure the RAM is seated correctly, sometimes it can come loose. You can also take one stick out if you have two and reboot. If it does it again then take that RAM out and replace it with the one you took out. If it still beeps then you need to buy new RAM. That will correct the problem.

Please rate this solution with 4 diamonds.

IBM xseries 205, Model 8480-43X Memory upgrade an POST BEEP

Those beeps mean that your RAM is not functioning. Are you sure you got the right upgrade type. Sometimes it'll fit into socket but won't work because of speed. Or just try reseating the modules.
