Hello, you might want to pull carriage from the right to the left, check to see if there is some paper in the right hand area, clear it out, then try again.

so when you pulled the carrige over from the right to the left, did you find any paper under the cover on the right side. you have to look from the left side of machine to the right side.

You are awesome! I looked all over the HP site and at videos and nothing. I thought I had looked everywhere in the printer, but sure enough... If you move the carrige over to the left, then look back behind where it was on the right side, I found a wad of paper crumpled up there. It's where the sponge and brush is. Removed the paper and Tada!!! Printer is back in business... Thanks!!!!!

If you lift the lid to get access to the cartridges, there should be a diagram showing you how to unjam the carriage. I have a 564, & it has that feature.

It seems you mistook Carriage Jam as Paper Jam, but they are different issues. Carriage jam means the carriage that carries the cartridges is jammed which needs to be moved or be cleared manually after opening the door.

Please follow the instructions mentioned here (Click Here) [source HP Support].

Good Luck.

Jammed Cartridge

You need to clean the encoder strip, the clear strip behind the carriage. You can wipe it carefully with a damp Qtip because with too much ink on it the carriage thinks it's not moving.

Printer says carriage jam, but I cannot see what the problem is.

I had a "carriage jam" error message.

My son gently wiped down the metalic strip that tells the carriage where it is. It worked for a couple of days and then the "carriage jam" message came back.

I took my 7210 apart, took the drive belt off/put it back on (not easy), and found nothing wrong with it. So, I put it back together. I noticed that if I pushed the print carriage all the way to the left, closed the lid, and pressed "OK", the print carriage would move a couple of inches to the right. It did this repeatedly. I figured the motor was working, but there was too much friction on the carriage. I put some 3-in-one oil on my finger and put a thin coat on the front, top, and back of the rod that the print carriage rides on. I then ran the carriage back and forth about 20 times. I closed the lid and it works fine.

I had the same problem with my DVD player. The head was hanging up on the two chrome plated rods that supported the head. I put some 3-in-one oil on the rods, ran the head back and forth, and it has worked ever since.

You might also check the belt to make sure that there is nothing that might cause it to hang-up.
