Any external drive uses a USB connection, and Windows Vista will recognize this "plug-and-play" device, using the built-in device-drivers.

What problems are you having?
Exactly what error-messages are you getting?

no error message, no registration on computer allowing access to hd

Try connecting a different USB device to that USB port, to prove that the USB port is working correctly.

Try connecting the unit to a different computer, while listening to the noises from the disk-drive inside the case while making the connection. You should hear a few clicks, as the "table-of-contents" is read from the disk, soon after applying the power causes the disk to spin.
If not, then you probably have a problem with the disk-drive inside the external case.
If the unit is still under warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

tried all those, different USB ports different computers, different operating systems, XP Pro and Vista Ultimate, HD is cyclying up with no registrations, this SMARKDISK HD is **** and headed to the trash.

Open the case, and disconnect and remove the disk-drive.
You can buy a new disk-drive (with compatible power

I'm not sure if my REPLY got posted -- you can disassemble the casing, remove the 'dead' disk-drive, swap-in a 'new' disk-drive, with similar 'power' and 'data' connections, and reassemble the casing, to produce a 'new' external disk-drive.

Also, you can have fun disassembling the 'dead' disk-drive, to extract a 'refrigerator-magnet', and to learn a bit about the 'guts' inside a disk-drive.

ASUS M51SN Matshita BD UJ-120 burner does not work - Windows 7

You need to install windows 7 (32 bit) not 64. To change to 64 you have to make internal changes and updates to your notebook. Your notebook is set up for 32 bit systems.

I just built a computer with 16Gb of DDR2 RAM. What OS should I put on this baby so that I can actually USE all 16GB of RAM? I was going to go with 2008 Server but someone told me Windows 7 would support...

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Wow, 16gigs of RAM... thats alot!
Well, for you to be able to get full use of your 16gigs ram. You need to be using a 64BIT OS. Windows Vista and Windows 7 has 64bit versions. The main problem that you will encounter with using 64bit OS is driver compatibility with your devices. Hopefully all your components have 64bit drivers. I hope this helps.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Software compatibility for TV-USB U728

well here is what i was looking for online but couldn't find who make's that. if i was you i would go to the website of who make that tv-usb u728 and see if they have an update for the drivers. If not you can try changing the compatibility of the program it uses not the driver you can't change that go to the program folder that you use and right click it open properties this should open a window now click on the compatibility tab check the box next to run this program in .... make sure it sayes run it in windows xp service pack 2. then hit apply and give it a try. If this doesn't work and they have no new driver's for you i'm sorry but it will not work on vista 64.
