Question about Maytag MAV3905EWW 13 Cycle Washer

Open Question

I have a Maytag model LAT9416AAE. It is 12 years old. This morning I went to do wash. The washer filled, but will not aggitate, spin or empty the water. I have checked all the electrical connections and they are fine. I called a repair shop which said it would cost $100 for a service call plus any parts. They said it could be the door switch, which would be inexpensive. Is this possible and can I somehow test it before I call a repair person? My concern is spending a minimum of $100 on a 12-year old washer. Should I just replace it? The repair shop said the life expectancy is 20-25 and recommended repair, but I don't know if they are telling the truth.

SOURCE: Old Maytag washer LA182 motor replacement

Neil,
I need to know if the motor came with a wiring diagram when it was purchased or did it just come by itself. You may have to learn how to read the wiring diagram that is stored inside the control panel.

Sounds like the belt is sliping. ether it's loose, or the trans needs lubed, or both.

SOURCE: maytag atlantis will agitate won't spin

I had the same problem with my Atlantis a couple of months ago. It turned out to be the bearing for the tub drive pulley. When you look under the washer there are three pulleys. The one for the motor is ont he left, the drain pulley on the right and the big one in the middle for the tub. What I found is that when the bearing went bad, the tub would fill and turn for washing, but it would not turn at all for spinning. I could turn the pulley by hand but the tub refused to budge. I removed the main pulley and could see that the bearing had exploded. You can't buy just the bearing but the whole pulley kit is like $35 so I got off easy. I put the machine back together (which is tricky) but it works fine now. The pulley kit comes with complete instructions but it's really straightforward. The tricky part is that you have to pull down on the end of the drive shaft in order to get the retainer ring onto the pulley. That can be difficult if you don't have a lot of room to work or have a partner to assist. You can replace the whole thing or just the bearing and save the pulley for a rainy day if you want. I opted for the whole replacement. But I saved the old. cause ya neva know!

I have a MAYTAG washer that was having trouble in the spin cycle it would drain but would spin slower like the brake was coming on. Now it rinses and spins fine but during the wash cycle it fills then once...

More than likely it has a broken wire underneath that controls the spin. and agitation. I had an old Kenmore that the wire that controls these functions would break about every 6 months.

Top loading washer that won't aggitate, or rinse.

without knowing more details, and considering it's age , my guess is that you have a disconnection (or a loose wire) to the solenoids under the tub. these solenoids activate the clutch system that pulls it into agitate and spin modes. it might be the solenoids, but rarely do both go out at the same time. it might be the timer contacts or connections behind the control panel. or, it might be the timer its self.
try unplugging the unit and check all the connections.
hope this helps jay

Series 70 washer will not aggitate, spin or drain

Even "empty" - there is still water in the tub to keep the seals moist.

Let it thaw completely - or put some hot water in the tub to thaw.

You may already have damaged the coupling/drive belt if it was frozen.

This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK
