Question about Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld
If the problem isn't hardware related then updating to the newest version might help. I would assume from that bit of info that your are using vista or 7. I think this has been a issue with each version of desktop since windows xp.
First just to let you know that the connector on the usb cable does wear or not make proper contact. I went through the desktop reinstall routine and found only by accident that the connector wasn't making proper contact. I purchased a new cradle charger and my data was working and it charged faster to boot. So if the desktop doesn't fix anything. Give your cable a wiggle and see if it works even for a instant. If you see that much or any life out of it, then you know its the ends and just replace it. You may also want to try the palm and cable on a different computer. It should be detected most likely as a unknown device. This would let your rule out the cable and palm and you might then have a usb port problem instead.
First I'll give you the instructions on how/where to get the software then I'll paste the direct link. (It's a long url so it may not copy correctly)
First go to www.palm.com then click on the support tab. Next click on the PDA, then click on the Palm TX not your E2. Along the left hand side it should day Palm 6.2 desktop. Click on that and you are taken to the download page. Click on the download button and save to your desktop or someplace you can remember where it is. When its done just click on it and install.
It should pick up your older data files but if not you will just have to hotsync to get them into your desktop.
You may want to try reinstalling your older desktop software version first.
Here is the link to the download page.
