Well, to answer part of your question, yes... the TI-89 does factor like this. it is inputted like this:

factor(6*x^2+11*x+4,x)

Check the catalog in the TI-84 (which is 2nd-zero) and look under F for factor()

SOURCE: comma key on TI-84 Plus Siver Edition calculator.

The comma key on the TI 84 SE is above the 7 key, and it is just left of (, right of x squared, and below SIN. thats where the "," key is. If you're asking something else, please clearify. My understanding is that you don't know where the comma key is.

for npv: select "7:NPV"

now you should get "npv(" on your screen.

use: npv(interest rate, cost {cash flows}, {frequencies of cash flows})

for irr: select "8: irr"

"irr(" will come up.

use: irr(interest rate, cost {cash flows}, {frequencies of cash flows})

The TI-84 has three different logarithm functions.

log is the common (base-10) logarithm.

ln is the natural (base-e) logarithm.

There is nothing to reprogram: The finance application is part of the OS and you cannot modify its working. Most likely you made some small mistake or other entering the terms of the calculation.

There may be some old values in the finance application variables. It might be a good idea to clear the registers before any new calculation.

The Finance App is part of the Operating system. You cannot get rid of it. The other Applications can be deleted from Archive Memory.

To restore them:

- Download them from education.ti.com
- Connect calculator to computer
- Run TI Connect.
- Drag and Drop an App onto the TI connect Main window
- The App should transfer to calculator
- After transferring one or two Apps, Press [2nd][MODE] to (QUIT) and let the calculator defragment the memory.
- Transfer one or two more Apps.

Your calculator is set in radians. Press mode key. Arrow down to 3rd line. Highlight degree and press enter. Your calculator is now in degrees, not radians. To get out of the mode screen and back to home screen, press 2nd and then mode.
