Will not get hot

If it's a gas dryer, check the thermal fuse, gas valve solenoid, igniter, element, flame sensor, high limit thermostat, or cycling thermostat.
If electric - check the heating element, thermal fuse, or thermostat.

Overall, dryers, specifically electric dryers, are very easy to work on - youtube has some great videos too.

The pilot will light but as soon as the button is released is goes out

1) If water heater has electronic gas control thermostat, then the gas control needs to be tested and possibly replaced. Add a comment and describe electronic gas control.

2) If water heater has non-electronic gas control thermostats, problem sounds like the thermocouple. Problem could also be bad gas control.
Make sure end of thermocouple sits in the pilot flame.

Buy thermocouple at local hardware. They vary by length, for example 18".
Thermocouple screws into bottom of gas control thermostat.
Finger tight plus 1/4 turn. No pipe joint compound or teflon tape on threads.

Heat from pilot flame travels to gas control thermostat.
Heat is changed into small electric current using a thermistor.
The small current tells gas control that pilot flame is ON, and so gas control keeps gas flowing.
If thermocouple is not working, or has fallen away from pilot flame, the gas control turns off gas to pilot.
This safety device is necessary so gas does not fill up house and cause explosion.

Water gets to hot even when turned down all the way thus opening pressure release valve

I can get you started but might need more information.
Do you have tank-type electric or gas water heater?
Or indirect heater, or boiler, or tankless, or condensing, or under-counter?

If you have ordinary tank-type electric water heater, the thermostat is probably bad.
Replace thermostat(s)
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

If you have ordinary tank-type gas water heater, then thermostat can be bad, and thermostat is located on the gas control valve

How do you turndown flame on a gas range

the gas thermostat should do that for you !
Sounds like your gas thermostat valve needs replaced, mind and only have a qualified engineer do this as gas repairs need to be leak tested after any work carried out.

Maytag LSG7800AAW Dryer not working

Its Either One Of Two Problems If Its Electric Its The Thermostat but if its gas it can be either the thermostat or the igniter. If its gas you can watch the igniter or listen to hear if its lighting. If it lights its the thermostat cause if the thermostat is malfunctioning it will turn the gas off when it doesn't detect the flame. It turns the gas off to prevent your home from filling with gas. Hope this helps.
Thanks For Choosing Fixya
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

NO GAS COMING THROUGH THE ORFICES

Might be the high limit thermostat or the control thermostat. Check your gas valve for continuity.
If you have a fuse in line with the control check it for continuity. Most of the time if the pilot is lit you have a bad valve, I would check that first. The valve is a combination gas valve. That means it has the pressure regulator built in. Check out the connection between the gas valve and thermostat. If no continuity between the 2 outer terminals change the gas valve. If the thermostat is open change it out. The high limit will connect between the left terminal shown and the safety magnet. I know this page shows a floor furnace thermostat but a geep fryer works exactly the same with a different thermostat and high limit.
