SOURCE: Shaver will not charge or clean in the base
Give up on Braun, they might appear to be a German brand but the quality has gone in the krapper.
My screws RUST in the shaver, this is the THIRD braun that is fucked up in communicating with its base or it quits (different models) ...
imply put, the MBA weenies instead of the German Engineering folks are in charge of the company and that is the end of another good brand.
Me ... i am so dsgusted, I went out and bought a first quality set of straight razors and am now getting the best shaves of my life.
Kiss my face shaving goo, high quality straght razor, oiled and strapped well, hot towel on face to soften the face hair, and wow, it is soo smooth and soo nice ... makes the electrc look lke junk ... better yet, no changing, no failing, and I can do anywhere, (except on a bouncing rutted road as I drive)
Spent over 800$ in the last decade on electric shavers, enough is enough.
Back to the cold steel and a good shave again ...

Your batteries are starting to degrade, but the good news is they're still holding a charge for a week, so you really don't need to rush to replace them at this point.
The flickering of the charged indicator is normal, as the shaver is still plugged in and the batteries are fully charged. The flickering is due to the batteries chemicals breaking down, and as such, the charge cycle keeps "topping" them off while it's still plugged in.
When you finally aren't able to get a decent amount of cordless operation and run times from your shaver, then you'll want to get them replaced, whether you decide to do that yourself or have it done by a professional service center, is up to you.
Here's a reference for your future use. www.electricshaver.com carries replacement (factory OEM) batteries for most brands of shavers and they also will provide the repair/replacement service for you, should you decide you don't want to do it yourself. You can also give them a call at 1-888-476-1785 and request a price quote, etc.
Anyway, your shaver is working fine and all you need to do is make sure you're not letting the shaver stay plugged in and charging constantly for more than a day, since any "extra" chargind isn't doing anything except keeping the batteries at a constant state of charge. Heat is a byproduct of charging and discharging any battery and as such, you want to allow for a cool down period before recharging them.
I tend to use my shaver until it is almost completely discharged before recharging it. By doing this, you can get the longest working life out of your batteries before you'll have to replace them.
Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

To open model 8985 you will first need to gently pry off the 'cap' on the bottom that surrounds the hole where the cord plugs in. Once removed the side grips will pull off revealing 4 screws. Remove screws to take off back cover and access insides. Inner parts simply lift out.
If replacement parts are required, you will find all components for this model at shaveroutlet.com
SOURCE: why does my clean and renew station leak all over
I figured out the problem for my Clean & Renew unit. Mine is 2 years old. About 3 months ago, I cleaned the buildup of whisker material from the TOP of the drain port [Left Side as you look at the unit] If you take out the cleaning solution cartridge and turn the unit upside down, you see the pump and the return ports. The return port is the smaller of the two. I found that there was a mass of dried whiskers in a few clumps clogging the return port. These clumps must have come loose and got caught within the drain port. I had noticed when I had the leaking problem I could hear bubbling just after the pump ran and the shaver turned off. I removed the clumps of whiskers and no more bubbling sounds and NO MORE LEAKS. My guess is that the fluid was draining back into the intake area and leaking on top of the cartridge. Hope this helps.

Try plugging the cord directly into the shaver to charge. Does it charge this way? If not, does the charging light indicator illuminate?
