SOURCE: No sound coming from my Dell 173FP monitor

This monitor does not have built in speakers you will need to buy some... The AS 500 soundbar fits on to it but is now not available. See if you can find it second hand.. Or buy USB speakers that fit into the back of your PC as the mointor does not have any ports.

You will have to check the power supply for bad fuse connection.
Check for bad fuse and shorted (Emitter to Collector) transistors C5706/5707.

SOURCE: Dell 173FP - black screen - green flashing power LED

nofun846, Software won't help you. All the fixya lcd monitor tech's already know what the problem is. Monitor 's "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl inverter supply" not working properly or has failed and gone into partial or full shutdown mode to try and save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. sparks, smoke, fire. Do some reading in my fixya profile for about an hour and find out your options you have. Read the older stuff!! You already did one test. Do flashlight test also. Will you attempt DIY fix or contract out repair or just trade for new??? READ, READ, READ. and if you don't like my stuff, try "buddymc" and "budmrtn" two other very good fixya tech's here on fixya along with hunderds of other tech's. Also visit links to other web sites for more info on BLACK screen fixes. Good luck with repair. 12fixlouie

Padlock icon

Many monitors have an on-screen display lock (the padlock icon) that seems to get stuck.
Various suggestions in the links below - the one that seems to work most often is to hold the monitor's menu button down for 15-20 seconds to get the screen menu, then either try unlocking the OSD (On Screen Display) or do a factory reset on the monitor.

Different monitors have slightly different menus, but if it's a Dell monitor you can find the manual below (under Display):
