Question about Plumbing

Open Question

When I turn on the faucet, the water "sputters" and hammers, getting worse as I increase the flow. If I turn on the faucet while turning on the spray nozzle, there is no sputtering and no hammering.

Your problem is a simple one.

  1. Turn off water to faucet.
  2. Place a towel(s) in the base of the sink(s) to prevent any parts from going down drain.
  3. Remove the handle to the faucet. (single handle only)
  4. If not a single handle then remove spout from faucet.
  5. If a single handle remove cap carefully and any loose parts.
  6. Gently turn spout side to side while lifting to remove.
  7. You will see a hole with a very small valve where the water comes out to the spout on the base of the faucet.

  1. Remove this valve (which is a backflow preventer) and replace.
  2. Reassemble and test.
Problem solved.

SOURCE: When the water is turned on, the faucet

The USUAL cause of this is the diverter valve that channels the water to the sprayer. There are several types of these so search for yours in google to find a blow-up drawing of it. They are usually in the tower the spout swings on and sometimes are a pintle valve like a little rod with dumbells on the ends. Crud can make them not seat then they will cause the hammering.

I am getting no water from the hot side of all my faucets cold water works fine

Sounds like the water inlet valve to your hot water heater has been closed (turned off) If the tank has no water coming in, it can't put anything out.

I have a Moen tub and shower system similar to the Moen 2919 Chateau two handle above. When I turn on the faucets up to 1/2 way everthing works fine. If I try to increase the water capacity by turning up...

To talk about your problem forces me to assume a few things.....If you allow the water to flow without cartridges and handles, the water must be flowing straight through the cartridge channels and out into the tub. It is not flowing through your tub spout or shower head when you test the water this way. If I'm correct, then the problem is isolated to the water mix operation. That means coming out of your spout or shower head. So now I have to ask a question. When you operate as normal (cartridges and handles installed) does your problem show up only on your shower head or does it also show up when operating out of the tub spout? If the problem is isolated to the shower head, try a head replacement. It may be partially plugged. If it's head or spout there may be something in the mixing pipe that only shifts around as pressure increases. I hope that is not your problem. It would require pulling those pipes out for inspection and most likely replacement. Nimsgame

Hi just moved in new home love it but the water pressure in kitchen is very low but the two baths i have the water pressure is fine can you help me please

One thing you could try is to remove the aerator at the end of the spout on the faucet, Turn water on and see if pressure is any better. If so the aerator is got something in it restricting the flow.
You also can remove the dime shaped flat in the aerator to increase water flow. It looks like a dime with a hole about 1/8" in center to restrict the flow to about 1.6 gpm. Remove it and reinstall aerator and check water flow

Most of the times when cold and hot side of faucet. It would be the first thin to check being you have good water pressure at other faucets. They catch debris and the flow slows down from the faucet's. Check out supply lines and faucet for a blockage if this doesn't take care of the problem.

Check out this web sire for a parts breakdown of parts in faucet. Check out installation and rough in sheet for information on faucet below.

When the water is turned on, the faucet "sputters" and "hammers" as if the water had been turned off then back on when it hasn't been. Plumber says we need new part (inside cartridge 070807-Aqua Source)....

If you have a Delta faucet your diverter may need to be replaced. The diveter is located under the spout (see diagram)(this is not your faucet but works the same)

  2. Remove handle.
  3. Remove top cap.
  4. Turning spout back and forth gently lift and remove.
