Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon SD1000 Two days ago, my son had a gig at his high school. I recorded it with the Canon Powershot and everything was fine after that. The video would play on the camera and everything. As soon as I got home that night, I tried to put the file onto my computer. I assume that the file was very large because they were playing a 10 minute song. Anyways, I tried to load the large file onto my computer and I saw that it was in My Documents, so I clicked on it. It showed up as a 0byte file with absolutely nothing in it? How can I successfully load this onto my PC?

In my computer you will find a extra drive letter when you hook up your camera to your computer. once you see the drive letter you can open the drive letter. then open then their should be 2 or more folders search throught the floders for the file you are wanting. once you have found the file right click on it tell it to copy then click on your desktop then right click then paste.

My Canon Powershot SD1000 will not turn on. The battery is fully charged.

What you have here on your SD1000 is just a power problem. It happens sometimes on digital cameras. It's unfortunate, but these things do happen. You would need to get the camera fixed which is a good idea considering what a great little camera that is. The site that I'd go to for help with a Canon Powershot would be www.camerasandparts.com The only thing they fix is the Canon Powershot Cameras and they happen to be excellent for service on these. The deal with them, and this is right on their site for your model, they perform the repair with both parts and labor included, you get all of the service for your model included, they give you a great 90 day warranty on anything on your camera for 90 days, and they include priority shipping going back. For your model that all runs $79. They're the place for help with the Powershot Cameras, your problem and service package is available on their site. I hope that will help you with it.

Canon powershot SD1000 video playback problems

Unfortunately, no. Time-lapse video works by taking fewer frames and then displaying them at normal speed so as to give the impression of time going by faster than in reality. Thus, the camera simply hasn't recorded all the information it would have in normal mode, and there's no way to recreate that information. Think of reading just the first line of every page of a book: you'd get through it quickly, but you'd also miss some things.

Now, if you'd shot in slow-motion, then you could throw out some frames until you got to normal speed.

Powershot SD1000 automatically shuts down in Camera mode

In any mode that the camera will stay on, press the "Menu" button and navigate to the RESET option and try to reset the camera. See if this will get the camera to function properly.

CANON SD1000 can't TURN vertical downloaded video into horizontal

If you have windows movie maker (its part of the default installation of windows XP) you can use the rotate filter in the video effects tools.
Import your video into movie maker and select "Video Effects" under tools.  Scroll through the various effects until you find the "rotate 90".  Apply the effect and save the video.
I hope this helps!

This is a really simple problem and easy to solve.  Unfortunately the videos you've recorded cannot be changed back because they have been recorded in Time Lapse mode.
With the camera switched on in Video Mode turn the control dial on the back (this is the dial to the right of the LCD screen).  This will change the settings from TIME LAPSE to STANDARD.  There are actually 6 different modes but the best one for normal videos is STANDARD.  There is a HIGH RESOLUTION setting,  however these record fewer frames per second (fps) so whilst the quality is better per frame,  there are half the amount of fps so the the movie will look at bit jerky.
It's really easy to accidentally twist the dial when holding the camera,  so always check the icon in the top right of the LCD before recording to make sure its just a yellow camera in a yellow square.
This should be problem solved for future recording.
