Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink icon NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. 1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
   • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
   • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
   The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.

Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu

1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

Checking ink levelsUse one of the following methods to check the ink levels. • The exclamation mark (! ) symbol indicates a low ink level.
• The question mark (? ) symbol indicates the product cannot determine the status of the print cartridge. This might be because the cartridge is refilled.

1. Make sure the product is on and connected to the computer.
2. Open HP Solution Center .
• Windows XP: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows 2000: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
3. Click Settings .
4. Point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . Printer Toolbox opens.
5. Check the ink levels displayed on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.

Hi,
If the ink level is low in a print cartridge, the Print Cartridge Status light stops flashing when the printer’s top cover is opened. When you open the panel the ink cartridges slide to the center , as far as checking the ink level find and right click on the printer icon, click properties, and find ink cartridges and ink levels.

View estimated ink levels
Follow these instructions to view the estimated ink levels of the print cartridges that are installed in the printer:

1. Open the printer Toolbox.
2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab.

Note If the print cartridges were used before being installed in the printer, the
estimated ink levels will not appear on the Estimated Ink Level tab.
The Estimated Ink Level tab also contains print cartridge ordering information. To view
this information, click the Print Cartridge Information button.

The ink level gauge may not work properly with refilled cartridges. Because of this, you might get low ink message after refilling. To install the refilled cartridge you might need to override the ink level gauge. Overriding the ink level gauge disables the printer’s ink level tracking feature, but allows you to use refilled cartridges. To override the ink level gauge, please check your printer reference guide. After disabling the ink level tracking feature you should check the ink level visually and as soon as the ink level gets low you need to refill the cartridge. You do not want to try to print with an empty cartridge. Trying to print with an empty cartridge may damage your print-heads.

Most HP's have a print utility software that can show the approximate ink level. It comes in the CD with the printer. Use this to view the level.
