Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Lynx 455 garage door opener unit. There are three ways to open/close my garage door: 1. Button on the wall in the garage 2. A key outside the garage 3. remote opener/closer Right now, they all work for opening the door. However, for closing using the button or the key I have to *keep the button pressed*, or the key turned until the door is *completely closed*. Otherwise it just pops right back up. The motor unit/box makes a click when I try to close using the remote closer.- but does nothing. Any thoughts? Thanks, mike

Check the sensors in the doorway. Sounds like they may be misaligned. They need to be pointing at one another to work properly.

    Thanks for the response.
Ah, yes - that makes sense. Except the doorway sensors haven't worked in a couple of years.
I disconnected the sensor lines from the motor completely - but that didn't help.

But - yep, it sounds like the next step is to look more closely at the sensors - and see if I can get them working properly again.

How & where would I get parts to repair my Lynx 455 garage door opener, installed in 1989 ?

Wow - lots of hits. Google: Lynx 455 garage door opener parts

This will start with service vendors who have parts and are close to you. After that, you will see the manufacturer pages.

How to get my garage door to open all the way?

Three blinking lights & door won't close by Candi
(Winston-Salem, NC)
Garage door will not open and close with remotes. Three blinking lights occur when we try to close door. What does this mean? It is a Linear unit.

I will assume you mean that your garage door will open with your remote but will not close. It should close if you press and hold the wall control button until the door is fully closed.

If that is the case, the 3 blinking lights indicate that your garage door's infrared safety beams are not properly aligned.

1) Check that the operator has power. The green lights on the sender and receiver should be lit.

2) If the receiver's green light is on, but the red light is off, the receiver has power but is not detecting the infrared beam from the sender. The red light might flash when the beam is partially detected. This can be caused by
mis-alignment or something blocking the beam.

Adjust the safety beam sender and receiver while watching the receiver's red light (stay out of the beam while aligning it). When the red light stays on, the beam is aligned and your garage door should operate normally.

NOTE: If the receiver's red light remains off, check for:

1) Dirt on the receiver's lens,

2) Sunlight shining into the receiver's lens,

3) A short in the safety beam wiring (from staples or at the operator terminals).

Hello does my lynx 455 plus sensors have lights

Not familiar with lynx but every sensor I have seen or heard of has a light. It is the only way to tell when they are pointed correctly at one another.

Craftsman garage door opener - Clicking/blinking - no open/close

First, check the safety eyes. There should be a light on each eye that is on. If not, realign the eyes. If that does not work, check the force settings. They are the blue adjustment screws. They should be set on 4-5. Do not go above 6 or there is a problem with either the door or opener, or both. If this does not work check all of the wiring on the back of the opener. 1 should be a red wire, 2 should be three white wires and 3 should be two black wires. Check the wiring to the wall button. the back of the button indicates red and white screws. To take off the wall button you will have to remove the big white button if you have the "deluxe wall control" If this does not fix it, respond with more info on door position and what happens with remotes and wall button.

Wiring chamberlain 1/2 h.p. security+

2 is the shared nuetral for the photo eyes and the wall button. 1 and 2 are for the wall button and 2 and 3 are for the safety sensors. All devices are polarized so keep that in mind. Thanks BB
