Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Fabric Sense System washer which is less than a year old. The problem is that the water level in the machine is too low. Is there an adjustment, can it be fixed, or is it something I have to live with and be mad about every time I do a full load of laundry?

I have the same problem. It doesn't seem to fill with enough water on medium to larger loads (and no, it's not crammed full.) It'e only 4 months old, so the switch shoul be fie. Even if it isn't, I'm no repairman, so wouldn't know where to begin.

The fabric softner compartment of my whirlpool duet washer is completely full of water

Mine is doing the same. For over 2 months now I've been adding fabric softner to the detergent compartment but I broke down and called a repairman to come tomorrow... at a ridiculous repair rate. My washer is less than 3 years old and this will be the 3rd major problem that needed to be fixed. I've seen a lot of people post the same problem - some say all 3 compartments won't drain.

Does not fill with water? power is on , filters

Yes, it is normal. There is water in the machine. One of the big draws for this style machine is that they use much less water than top load machines. If you stopped the cycle and opened the door, dug down in the clothes, you would find water. The machine fills a small amount of water (below the level of the door) and tumbles. As the water is absorbed by the clothing, the water level drops, so the machine adds more to maintain the water level. This is basically how the washer figures out how big your clothes load is and how much water that load needs. (Of course most sales persons at the big box stores and Sears have no idea how this works)
If you'd like, try running a cycle with no clothes to see how much water is in the machine. (It's not a lot) Now remember this: Because there is so much less water use than a top load machine, you must cut way way way back on the amount of soap and fabric softener used. Use no more than one tablespoon of HE (High Efficiency) soap (even less if it is 2x or 3x concentrate) and one teaspoon of fabric softener per load

Samsung Washer, less than year old. Not every load and not every item but periodically something will come out with stains not previously on the item.

Hi,

This is common, if the machine does predominantly COLD washes.

Over a period of time, there is a build up of soap scum (washing powder/fabric softener etc) inside the machine, caused by using excess soap powder/detergent.

To recitfy this, fill the empty bowl (no clothes) with a solution of HOT water & CITRIC ACID (found in the baking isle of your grocery shop) on HI Water level. Set the machine to wash cycle, then drain.

Fill again with same solution, but leave solution inside the bowl overnight.

Drain next day, then follow with 1 single HOT wash (no clothes) on HI water level again.

The scum should be gone...

The hot flush should be done at least every 6 months, but this can be dramatically reduced if you use less soap powder (Samsung machines do not require as much powder, as do other machines)

Washer less than a year old. Top loading. Will

Have you moved recently, or moved the washer for any reason?

Two things can usually cause that.

First, Some part of the drain hose must always be higher than the highest possible water level in the machine. Remember that water flows downhill. If all the hose is lower then the highest possible water level the machine can never fill since water will drain out hose. So, raise the hose higher than the flat top of the washer and try again.

2A, Inserting the drain hose too far into the house drain. or 2B, sealing out ALL air in the drain line by using a hose too tight in the drain pipe or taping the drain pipe tightly with the drain hose in it can both create a vacuum in the drain line which will actually **** out all the water in the tub. This can be tested by pulling the drain all the way out and aiming it into the tub as you try it. Good Luck.

Smelly washer, smelly clothes; sitting water under the drum

Hello hilewe
Welcome

You said, old smelly water sits under the drum and does not drain. it is under the rubber. i soak it up with a towel, but this does not solve the problem. what can you do to solve the problem of sitting water under the drum?

How old is your washer?

This drainage problem may be caused by a number of situations
First check these things listed below!

1. Water in washer does not drain or .
2. Drain hose is kinked or clogged.
3. Clean and straighten the drain hose.
4.Drains slowly. Maximum standpipe height is 8' (2.4 m).
Is the drain at the same level as the machine .
Or does the water need top be pumped up higher to an existing high drain as if from a basement?

If none of these things are the case, you can try one other thing before calling service!
Unplug the washer for 10 minutes and then after these 10 minutes see if the system has reset!
In some electronic washers this may be all it takes to reboot the system.

If you tried all these things first and they did not remedy the situation, Then you may need hands on service.

Here is an article I just read that you may find interesting
If the washer is old it will not pay you to repair the

Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old washer

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that washers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washer
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of washers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

With the machine off and empty, fill the softner bin with water only. Does the water level go down or stay the same.
