Question about Keurig Elite B40 Coffee Maker

All LED lights flashing and the brewer does not work

I have a new Keurig B40 that I used for two weeks. It now has all the LED lights flashing at the same time and does not brew any coffee. I have not been successful in "resetting" the brewer. Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem has also happened to me. After spending almost $100 I am really pissed off that the brewer just stopped working. It seems that no one seems to know about the problem in at Keurig customer support.

  • kris856 Jul 04, 2008

    ME TOO! I'm so frustrated.

  • Anonymous Jul 15, 2008

I have the same problem. Keurig support asked me if there's been an electrical storm (no) and they are sending me a new brewer and sent prepaid postage so i can send the old one back... While I'm not happy that it broke, the cs seems pretty reasonable.

  • sb_chatman Oct 19, 2008

I have same problem with my Keurig B40. Had one stop after 3mo. and cs @ Keurig sent out another B40, only to brew 5 cups and stop working again. Very frustrated but love the product. Will keep you posted on what they say.

  • hreadey Oct 26, 2008

Followed priming procedure in maunal and it primed okay. Before I could make a first cup, all LED lights started flashing. No action on may part including depressing buttons, removing/reinstalling full water reservoir, or opening and closing the K-cup holder helped. I also unplugged the brewer and after a minute plugged it back in. LED lights continue to blink weh when the unit is plugged in.

  • Save7 Dec 09, 2008

My brand new B40 started flashing just after starting the priming process. No water ever left the holding tank.

I've left messages, emails and just finally got a hold of a customer service rep only to be told that I'd have to call back when I'm in front of the machine as they are not allowed to give me the sequence by email or phone since it is proprietary information. WOW!

This is frustrating - I WANT TO USE IT!!!

  • stormtco Dec 30, 2008

I am so mad.. I just bought it made two cups and now I have the same problem with the lights flashing. I called customer service but need to speak to a tech between 8 and 530 so now I have to go to work late to try to fix a coffee pot that I spent 100.00 and yet to use...

How do you press the auto/off button and the small cup button at the same time? Any help would really be appreciated.

How to descale a Keurig coffee brewer

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

...when the coffee brewer's power, "on," button (on top of machine) is depressed, the light under the button (indicating power is being delivered to the machine) does not respond. The brewer is indeed not receiving electricity. This is not a house wall outlet or electrical supply issue. The unit just quit powering up.

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

when the power "on" button is depressed, the unit does not power up...this is not an electrical supply (house wall socket/electrical supply) issue, as the unit worked one morning and would not power on the following morning...

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2014

I have a Keurig B-30 and it will not brew. The power light comes on but nothing else happens. I have cleaned the needles with a paper clip and have turned the unit upside down and slapped it a few times. I have used compressed gas to clean the tubes. I cannot run anything through the brewer since the opower light comes on but nothing else works.

I had the same problem. They told me it had to be "reinitialized" To do so, press the auto-off, small, and large cup buttons simultaneously then release. All lights should go off. Unplug, replug, then press power and it should work again.

Just got my fixed from tech support... the following is the procedure that works:
1. Hit auto off and small cup at the same time and release hit small cup three times, when it works the only light showing will be the descale light....
2. hit small cup then auto off, then release small cup and then auto off, when this works lights on will be the power button light and the descale light.....

ALL OF THE ABOVE DURING THE PROCEDURE MUST BEEN DONE FAST OR RAPIDLY....

3. With both of the above lights on unplug for about 3 to 5 seconds... and then the brewer comes to life.. and WORKS

I am now drinking a great coffee brew and enjoying it... This does work, but you have to push the buttons in the sequence I have listed and FAST!!!!!!

I had the same problem w/ mine- just received it a couple days ago. I e-mailed Customer Service thru Keurig.com and they e-mailed me back to call their Service Dept between 7AM-12 Midnight EST and to make sure I had the serial # (located either underneath the base or behind the drip tray-just pull it out) when I called.

I tried the troubleshooting sequences mentioned above before calling and it didn't work. Still had all lights flashing.

Hold down the small cup and auto off at the same time and release. Do this in one quick motion.

Next, hold down the small cup then auto off and release small cup, then release auto off buttons. As mentioned in a previous reply, this has to be done FAST.

If the reset is successful, only the power light (solid green) and the Descale (blinking) should light up. It took me 3 tries to get it right, so be patient.

Unplug for 3-5 seconds and then plug back in. Power light, Heating, and Descale should be lit.

Make sure you have water in the reservoir and an empty cup to proceed w/ Descale/ Setup instructions that were included in the manual. They will talk you thru it if you don't have it handy. The Heating takes a few minutes, but you'll know if it's happening because it makes some noise.

She assured me that this would be a one-time-thing when I asked her if I wrote all of the steps out correctly.

If this doesn't help, the Customer Service # is 1-866-901-2739.

Good Luck!

Try quickly pressing (at same time) small cup button & the auto off and then you must immediately press the small cup button three times. We had to do this combination very fast.

1) together & fast: small cup button & auto off button
2) immediately press small cup button three time fast

I randomly pushed all the buttons on the top numerous times. Finally after several minutes of pressing something evidently reset and it started working.

Numerous= very fast and radomly, I guess I accidently hit the right sequence.

I wrote it down from what i remembered after talking to a tech rep..hit small cup button and auto off button same time then let up and hit small cup button 3 times. all this has to be done fast. then hit small cup button and auto off button again together then let up and hit small cup button just after that and only hit one time. then unplug wait a few seconds then plug back up. all lights will be off then hit power button. descale light will be lite then hit small cup button and heating light will light up, it takes a couple of minutes for water to pump from reserves to heat up and then water will come out in cup and then its primed. And i'm pretty sure thats the way it went.

This was my original post, this is an update for the others affected by this.
I called Keurig and they sent me another B40, I got 3 cups of coffee from it before it froze again. They are now sending me a B60 - they say it's wired differently, I'm cofident it will work.
I used their B50 model in that same plug for almost 4 years without a single problem.

Love the product, and the customer service is fantastic!

I could not get any of the methods above to work. I got fustrated and pressed both the small cup and auto/off buttons simultaneously, about 4 or 5 or 6 times in a row, very quickly, in response to my extreme fustration and anger (who would design something like this? where is the reset button??)... Until I noticed all 5 LEDs were on but dim (they are blinking very quickly, making them appear dim). Then, I stopped, realizing this is 1/2 the battle. Now, I either pressed small cup then auto off, or just small cup. Cannot remember. Try something. The first time I had the dimmed LEDs, I did not hit the right sequence. But was able to get the dimmed LEDs a second time, and figured out what to press once you got the dimmed LEDs. Anyway, I basically tried solution #2, and mixed in Solution #2 above, and got it to work. It was Sautrday morning, and I was not going to be able to talk to a service tech during their hours, since I am at work during those times. I wanted my coffee NOW! GEEZ.

Hey, thank you, people here at FixYa. This was great. Thank you for making this website.

A modified version of solution 6 worked for me. I did not do it very fast. I suspect that doing solution 2 very fast results in something very similar to solution 6 (at least for the processor, which can only sense the buttons every x ms): 1. Hit auto off and small cup at the same time and release hit small cup three times. Contrary to solution 6, the only light OFF was descale then. I didn't do that extremely fast. Probably took 2 seconds in total. Was reproducible. Did it at least 5 times.
2. Hit small cup then auto off, then release small cup and then auto off. When this works lights on will be the power button light and the descale light.

What crazy mind would design a machine like this? Probably some brain dead engineer somewhere in China, and Keurig is dumb enough to buy their ****. Will never buy a Keurig again.

I just bought a Keurig Elite B40 Coffee Maker myself, had same issue, Caledl Keurig support, problem solved in seconds. Seems an import step was left out of instructions. The step before the blue lights flash, RAISE THE SILVER HANDLE ALL THE WAY UP AND THEN CLOSE. According to Keurig this tells the brewer that a human is present and aware the brewer is running, a safety feature. Be sure you have a cup in place.

Lift the handle to open the k-cup holder and then close it back up. The coffee mug lights should begin to blink for you.
