If your MW221U has same symptom when connected to a fully booted "known good" pc with WIN-desktop displayed, then the first place I would investigate would be the monitor's ac to dc power supply called "switch-mode-power-supply/ CCFL inverter" printed circuit board!! How old is unit? What is date of manufacture? Is unit covered by warranty? Have you seen any of the video clips of "cold cathode fluorescent lamp, back-lit, LCD monitors being disassembled and having their SMPS's repaired at YOUTUBE for filter capacitor replacement??? All commercial and private owners of LCD monitors should do extensive research at YOUTUBE first!! Even if their units are functioning perfectly!!! All owners should understand the 1 or 2 most common causes of malfunction or "black, or black n blank" screen failure modes. Your ASUS unit isn't any different than any other brand of CCFL lcd monitor!! ALL use the same basic engineering design and principle of operation to display text and graphics on their glass lcd panels!!! After YOUTUBE research, return here to fixya and do some reading in the FIXYA PROFILES of lcd monitor tech's "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" and a whole host of other excellent profiles that have lots of DIY lcd repair information for you to use in your repair quest.

If this was of some use, please rate this response on fixya and /or leave comment. 12fixlouie

Samsung flat panel monitor brightness indicator problem

This is a firmware issue.
The system is telling you that the monitor is having an issue with the brightness and is not able to regulate it by it's internal program.
It seems that this device is needing electronic service.
Hitting the menu buttons will not remedy this issue. You will need a service tech to diagnose the problem.

Brightness indicator windows does not go away

Dear sir This is common problem observed in many monitors compaq,HP,HCL,IBM this is happens mainly in rainy season due to moisture,by this moisture monitor button circuit get rust inside and button pad remain pressed. so it shows a strip at the middle of monitor like contrast or brightness. So this is minor problem just replace the monitor display control button sensor or circuit.Temporarily you can warm up the monitor by hanging a bulb of 60 watt nearer your monitor to takeoff the moisture.(Dont hang the bulb too near to the monitor). It definitely solves your problem.

What is "OPC"? It comes up and goes away.

OPC_ Optical Picture Control
Automatically adjust the brightness of the screen.
You can change the settings in the menu option.
It's in Menu, then picture, then OPC.

OFF- The brightness is fixed at the value set in "Backlight"

ON- Automatically adjusts

ON: DISPLAY- Displays the OPC effect on the screen while adjusting the brightness of the screen.

If you don't want the silly display from popping up all the time, go into to menu and change the setting to ON; instead of ON: DISPLAY

Lately, all "white" objects, text, spaceships, etc. have "glows"

Do you also have a glow around the projected image, try projecting on a white wall without any borders. The cause for this is dirt inside the lens elements diffusing the light.
