SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I just bought a new 16gb micro sd card its brand is pny. I want to return it because when I check its memory capacity . It indicated.14.83 gb only.

This is normal as it is pre-formatted. You can format it again by right clicking the Removal media drive and clicking Format, but it will take up 1-2 GB of space as this is only normal.
Have fun :)

What do "write protect" mean

1. Switch to playback mode using the mode
dial. Use the Left/Right buttons to locate
and display the photo or movie that you
want to protect.
2. Select the Protect setting from the
Playback menu as described previously.
3. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons to
select One to protect this picture/video,
or select All to protect all pictures/videos in
the internal memory or memory card. Then
press the Right navigation button.
4. Use the function button to select Yes to lock
the displayed picture/video or Unlock
to unlock it, and use the Up/Down
navigation buttons to select Back to
return to the Playback menu.
5. A key icon will appear on the top of
the screen to indicate that the picture/
video is protected.
6. Select reset to cancel protection for all
files that have been placed in the protected
mode.
Also keep in mind the card it self has a write protect on it if you hold the sd in front of you label side up its on the left hand side its just a little slide tab.

When i turn on my camera it says that the memory card is protected. and it says to reset the switch on the card. how do i do that?

It seems you have a SD memory card with a write protect switch on it.
This s a safety feature so that you do not accidently erase stuff.

You need to remove the card fom the camera, and examine it closely for a small slide switch.
To remove from camera, you normally push it in a little to have it pop out a little, like a push button, then it's released and can be pulled out easily.
Look on the edges, bottom and sides. If you see a very small lever slide it with a finger nail to the opposite position and return the card to the camera, again pushing it in to click and pop out just a little to lock in place.
Try camera again.

If there is no switch on the device there is another problem. Try formating in a PC.

HOW DO I UNLOCK PROTECTED PICTURES IN MY CAMERA

Press MENU to enter the menu. Select the SETUP menu (the wrench icon). Select Protect (the key icon). Protected pictures are indicated by a little key icon in the upper-left corner of the picture. Navigate to the protected ones and press up/down to unprotect.

Or is the entire card protected? SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I am getting a "card protected" error

Hello there Tim,

Turn off your camera and remove the memory card. On the card, look for a small tab that can be adjusted upwards or downwards. That makes the card protected. Just adjust the tab against the original position and return back memory card on the camera. That's it!

Hope this helps.

Protected Photos

Hi there.
Check the card an make sure the write protect is not on, if it is,
face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab down, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

Please post back if you need any additional advice.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

Protect Mode on. Want to repair/return to normal

Sounds like your receiver is fried. Your best choice is probably to take it to a repair facility, where they can figure out what component failed, or to buy a new receiver.

500.1 amp power lights blinks on and off

Protection mode; follow this link to get a manual for the amplifier: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=439

Below information is from the manual:

Status Indicator Lights / Protection Circuitry
There are three status indicator lights on the top of the amplifier. These are as follows:1) "Power" (Green): lights to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
2) "Thermal" (Red): lights to indicate that the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature, putting the amplifier into a self-protection mode, which reduces the power output of the amplifier. The red light will shut off and the amplifier will return to normal, full-power operating mode if the heat sink temperature drops back to a safe level.
3) "Low ω" (Amber): lights to indicate that the impedance of the speaker load connected to the amplifier is lower than the optimum impedance load range for the amplifier. When this light is on, a protection circuit engages and reduces the power output of the amplifier. The amber indicator will also light when a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring (this can be a short between the positive and negative speaker wires or between either speaker wire and the vehicle chassis).
There is only one condition that will shut down an undamaged 500/1v2 completely… If battery voltage drops below 10 volts, the entire amplifier will shut itself off. The green "Power" indicator on the top of the amplifier will turn off when this occurs. The amplifier will turn back on when voltage climbs back above 10 volts. This may happen in a rapid cycle when bass-heavy program material causes a weak charging system to dip below 10 volts momentarily. If this is happening in your system, have your charging system inspected to make sure it is working properly.
For information on troubleshooting this amplifier, refer to Appendix E (page 21).

"Memory card is protected"

This error message indicates that the memory card is locked. The switch on the memory card is in the write-protect position. Reset the switch as shown on the camera screen.
