SOURCE: Dryer keeps running after the door is open. Is

Hi.
Yes door safety switch may be faulty or stuck.

Normal for them to go out over time & usage. Switch is usually $5.00 to $20.00 labor well you can guess as usual more than it should.

Another possible problem could be wire shorted. But that would be a rare occurrence.

SOURCE: dryer door

The dryer door catch and latch assy is worn and needs to be replaced.

See this link to see which of them matches your dryer: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Door-Latch-Kits/index.aspx

Any local appliance parts supply center will have this part in stock. It is howe3ver best that you take your "complete model number" with you when you go to get the replacement part. They are under $3.00 in
cost.

Use a knife blade to unlock the opposing plastic retaining tabs on the old part for removal. Make sure you change both pieces. The one in the chassis and the one in the door.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Door will not stay shut

There has to be some sort of spring on the door latch assembly that keeps the door closed. If broken or no tension the door will not latch and spring open. And when the door springs open, a safety switch shuts the machine off.

Dryer keeps running and timer continues to move around dial.

Change your timer. It has a malfunction in it. it's about a 100 dollar fix. Also your start switch may be bad.

Need help with OLD dryer

IF YOU MEAN THAT THE DRYER STARTS BACK UP WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED. CHECK TO SEE IF THE PUSH TO START BUTTON IS STUCK PRESSED IN AND NOT SPRINGING BACK OUT.
IF IT IS STUCK, TRY WD-40 TO LOOSTEN IT. OTHERWISE, REPLACE THE SWITCH.

IF THE DRYER KEEPS RUNNING WHEN YOU "OPEN" THE DOOR, THE DOOR SWITCH IS SHORTED. REPLACE THE DOOR SWITCH.
