Question about Floppy Drives

1 Answer

Floppy Disk Hey guys, I have an old Korg Triton. Over the past two weeks it's started giving me trouble with saving and what not. I've been given errors that say I cannot undo function and saving the sequences has taken a lot longer than usual for a certain disk that I have. I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that I've used the arppegio function in the sequence or not. However, I've had a couple of songs saved tothe floppy disk I've been using for a couple of months now. i loaded it last night and it was fine. Today as i attempted to load it, it rattled while trying to load and the drive was trying to read it for about a minute. After that it said no label. Another time, the triton said unformatted. For the most part it says no label. I've loaded other disks with no problem, with the exception of one disk. That disk is the one with the arppegio function saved. This disk said no label ONCE, but then loaded the next time I tried. Please don't tell me I've lost the tracks on the other disk. Ugh. Thanks.

Hi;

I am having a problem with my Korg X2 drive and I need to find a new one, a replacement. If you or someone knows where to find it please let me know. For your Korg Triton I recommend this site www.route66studios.com. They may have your drive.

Hello! I have a Floppy Drive FD-235HG-C332 manufacturer TEAC. I want to know what data capacity (Operations modes) has my device: 720Kb, or 1Mb, or 1,44Mb, or 1,6Mb, or 2Mb. There are jampers, placed...

Your TEAC FDD (floppy disk drive) is a Tri-mode device (720 KB, 1.2 MB, and 1.44MB)

The "235" part of the model number indicates the drive's form factor (size) is 3.5 inches.
The "HG" part of the model number indicates that the FDD is a Tri-mode device, with the 3 modes
given above.

The manufacturer notes that it has no jumpers, but every FDD I've ever seen has jumpers for
bus master/slave selection. Either master or slave will work.

Here's the manufacturer's web site URL for your TEAC floppy disk drive:

Here's the info on the NEC FD 1137C drive:

I am now unable to access a floppy disk that I had been able to access for years. I now get an error message that tells me the disk has no ID address mark. How do I fix this?

Try changing the stting switch on the disk. I think it is for formatting or something like that. Try moving it to the opposite direction and then put it in your computer again ;) Good Luck

Hi there,
The operating system you are using is pretty old....DOS uses commands that are typed without graphic user interface. It is probable that the drive is dysfuntional because of age/fatigue. You need to use newer technology. You can insert the same disc in a drive that is in a windows environment e.g Winows 95, 98 or XP. This disc will definitely be more expensive than your old dos-run drive, but am sure you will have a lot less stress. better still when you get this copy all your information on the system and use a better newer storage device like a flash drive, CD/DVD.....they are much better in terms of capacity and functionality.

My floppy drive tells me to insert a disk when I try to use it

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?

Floppy disc not working

Sometimes u can go to a different computer and get the disk to work. Most of the time u can't though. I suggest you try a few different computers (new and old computers) and if you get one to read it get your info off and save it to another floppy or a flash drive or something. I have also tried the format option and it will always say that the disk can't be formatted. I usually toss them in the trash after that.
You may also try running a standard windows scandisk on the disk. A lot of people feel more secure saving their stuff to a floppy, mostly because it's something physical they can hang onto and carry around. But the truth is that they are far too unreliable to use given the wide range of other options available today (e-mail, ftp, jump drives, hard drives, cd-roms, etc.)

Won't read disks

Hey Rorel,

The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Reinstalling

OK ya have to reinstall your Driver for your external disk. Get the name and/or manufacturer of your External Drive... Google the name + the words ...driver download. Download the software and install, then plug your external drive back in and it should be detected and you should be able to use it again.
