Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

From what I have read, my inverter board has gone haywire in my acer flatscreen monitor. the screen lights for a second or two then goes very dark with a ghost of the computer's desktop image barely able to be seen with a flashlight (lights stays green on monitor). I am by no way a computer repair person, but i do like to try to atleast diagnose my own computer problems. This seems to be the problem this morning. is there an easy fix or do I just buy another monitor and call it a day?

On my Acer AL1916W monitor the screen comes on for a few seconds then goes off but the power light is still green.

Hi.

That is often an inverter failure. Try turning off the room light, and point a flashlight sticking to the dark screen. If you can see a very faint picture, then the inverter has failed.
Before replacing the inverter, the PSU must also be tested. If the PSU does not supply power to inverter, then the PSU and not the inverter is the part to be tested.

If the screen is not dark, but there is backlight and no picture, then the problem is not the inverter. In that case check the source and the connection cable. If the cable is OK, then it is usually the main controller board inside the monitor. Once again the part must be tested.

Regards.

Ginko.

My brightness control does not work just turned on and can not hardly see anything it is up and running what now

Have you tested it with an external monitor?

I would say you either have a damaged inverter board or screen baclight lamp. Usually the inverter board fails in one of the following ways:

1. When you turn on the laptop, the screen lights up for a short period of time and then goes dark. You still can see an image but it is very dark, almost invisible and definitely not usable. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up and then goes dark again. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
2. Your laptop turns on but the screen remains dark all the time. You still can see a very dim image outline. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
3. The laptop screen works fine for hours or even days, but sometimes it goes very dark as it mentioned above. When you restart the laptop, the screen works fine again.

Inverter failure symptoms are very similar to backlight lamp failure symptoms and in most cases you cannot tell which one is causing the problem until you replace either the inverter board or the backlight lamp. From my personal experience, inverter boards fail more often than backlight lamps. If you have to guess, replace the inverter first.

Comes on for second with picture and goes black. turn off and back on will do same thing.

Sounds like it is probably the inverter board. You can find one on eBay, they are usually the problem, not the backlight or screen. Simple change usually and you are good to go. Very inexpensive too, search ebay for inverter board acer P241W, or I have gone to laptopaid.com too.

ACER AL 2017 goes dark after half second of image.

I had the same problem with the same monitor. You could see the image, but extremely faintly. In my case, the problem ended up being the inverter board (Delta DAC-12M033), which I found refurbished on Ebay for $45.00. Takes about 30 minutes and about 15 screws to replace, if you are handy in that department. Just my $0.02 worth. Hope that helps!

Used as second monitor suddenly stared to go dark

If the screen is lighting up for a fraction of a second when you turn on & then goes dark, this indicates a fault either with the backlights on the screen or the inverter part of the monitor. You can check the backlights if you have access to a backlight tester, you need to remove the rear cover & connect the backlight cables into the tester, if this checks ok then look for a problem on the inverter board, checking the capacitors for any signs of distress.

Problem with monitor

Hi.
Are you able to see a slight image on it at dusk and maybe with the help of a flashlight. since your blue light stays on the video board, may be okay.
It sounds like you have bad capacitors on your powerboard or possibly a burned out transistor on the inverter.

Only way to really tell is to open it up.
If you unplug the screen to video board ribbon, you may notice a different effect in the screen lighting.
There is a chance one of your bulbs is creating a problem
Should the screen happen to light up all white, then your power board and inverter are okay and the problem may be in the video board.
If it looks pinkish or dark or flickers then the bulbs or a bulb may be the issue.
If it flashes on then goes off, it's in the power or inverter board.
