You need to have the camera serviced if you have that lens error. The site that is amazing for help with this problem is: www.camerasandparts.com They just do service on the Canon Powershots and they are fantastic if you need help with one of these. Look under their complete service and repair and you'll see how easy it is to have looked after. It runs $89 for everything and that covers the servicing for your camera too which is good if you've never had that done. Best of luck, that's the place if you need help with a Powershot.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Lens error,restart camera

Since your camera is a Canon and you are experiencing a lens error message, we'd refer you to this site: www.camerasandparts.com They just do the Canons, they aren't expensive at all and the work through them on the Powershots is superb! They'd be the place to help you on this one. Their service package for the lens error on the G7 is $89 with the parts / labor included , the servicing for the camera is covered, plus the shipping on the way back is included. The best part with them is their work is excellent on the Canons. Hopefully that helps to get you going with it. Good luck

Everytime I try to turn my camera on it keeps saying "Lens error, restart camera". And the lens only goes out part way. What could be wrong with my camera?

ıt seems to be your lens is blocked by internal moving parts that could have been damaged due to dropping or hitting it (either camera or just the lens ) to a hard surface.
I recommend you to take it to the nearest photo repair shop to a expert examination .If you are lucky, and if it is not a serious damage they may correct it easily.

Switch off and on again? Take battery out and replace. Thats the only 2 ways of 'restarting a camera that I know of. Does your model have a 'reset' function? You will have to check the manual for that. Or ask Canon support.
