SOURCE: ip conflict
Click Start, Click Run, type in CMD and hit the enter key, type ipconfig /all after the > sign and then hit the enter key, this will give you the ip address of the computer, the subnet mask and the default gateway, the DHCP server and the DNS server. You can reset the computer's IP address by typing ipconfig /release in the CMD window then typing ipconfig /renew. BPCS

First, is the problem truly that you can't get an IP address from the router or is it that you can't get on the internet. I will touch base with both issues briefly. Many newly placed routers need the MAC address cloned within the router setup to register with the ISP and recieve internet access. If the PC is truely not recieving an IP from the router, make sure DHCP is turned on and set a range of address you wish use. Tip: limit the number of addresses to only what you will actually use. Make sure your computer is set to recieve an IP automatically and you have the proper client, service and protocols running. Basically, If the PC will run directly from the cable modem, then it should run from the router also. If the PC will not obtain an address from the modem directly then your winsocket may be corrupt. Malware will often do this. It is easily repaired and there are many winsock32 repair tools on the net. Just Google "winsock repair" without the quotes and you will find a multitude of software.

The 1800 series do not have CLI so you should connect directly to any RJ-45 port.
I quote from the installation guide:
"In the factory default configuration, the default IP (Internet Protocol) address of the switch is 192.168.2.10 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0"
So set your PC IP address in the same subnet and access it through your web browser. If it has not the default configuration, interconnect the switch ports 1 and 2 and reboot it.
Hope this helps,

Is this a brand new switch? Or did it come from somewhere else? It might have an IP address assigned to it that is interfering with the rest of your network.
Try plugging in a laptop only to the switch and give the laptop a static IP, see if you can access the configuration of the switch.
