A mouse that wont work at all

Dear experts: I have anIOGear GME223R Mouse that I am unable to get to work on a Toshiba satellite laptop. Is there a driver that I can download. I have gone to the IOGear page and there doesn't seem to be such a driver. The computer has windows xp and simply wont recognize the mouse. Thanks, Jorge

Clarification: I have tried the mouse on another computer with the same resullt, that is, with no recognition at all. The usb antenna lights on and the mouse light beams intermitently as if trying to communicate.

Dear Markk7171: Following your suggestions, I have gone to the address you furnished and looked at the part of the manual for the iogear mouse you mention. I don't now if this is significant at all, but the manual mentions that after the system boots, and you insert the usb receiver into the usb port, "You will see a dialog box, indicating that the computer has detected a new USB device." Well, I never get that diaglog box. In fact, when I plug in the receiver after the system has booted, I hear the characteristic noise indicating that a new usb device has been connected to the computer, but the icon for "safely disconecting" usb devises does not appear in the toolbar on the lower part of the screen where it should appear. Also when I pull out the receiver without first arranging to "safely disconect" (since there is no icon available for this purpose) the usb device, I hear the characteristic noise when you improperly pull out a usb device, so that the computer somehow is recognizing the presence of the antenna. Hope this is significant to you. Thanks.

Thank you for your comments. I did follow the suggestions in the documentation as closely as I could but now I shall follow to the letter your description of the procedure. I'll report back. Thanks a lot.

I did try the procedure again and just doesn't work. Frustrating!!

  • jo_lopez May 27, 2008

Thank you. I performed the procedure described as you prescribed. All of the universal serial bus controllers had "disable" as the only choice when I clicked on them, so I presume that this means that they are indeed enabled. When I insert a pen drive, say, I do not get the usual message that new hardware has been detected, but the usual window with the normal choices (open folder, take no action, etc.) come up on a screen. I hope this is helpful.

I have exactly the same problem. My laptop doesn't recognise the mouse, but recognises other devices plugged into the same usb bay.

If you have another computer available, desktop or laptop, try installing the mouse on that computer to see if it isn't the mouse that is bad. I assume this is a wireless mouse, have you replaced the batteries inside the mouse?

Below is a link to the pdf document for your mouse. Please scroll down to the section titled 'Windows'. This section refers to the blinking light on the mouse, and what steps you need to perform next. I hope this helps.

Despite not seeing the dialog box or the icon to safely disconnect, did you try pressing the connect button on the mouse then on the receiver for 2-3 seconds?

When the light on the mouse begins to flicker, it means the mouse is, indeed, communicating with the recevier. The next step in the process is to press and hold the connect button on the mouse for 2-3 seconds, then press and hold the connect button on the recever for the same amount of time in order to complete the connection. For the time being, ignore the fact that the dialog box, indicating the presence of a new usb device, does not appear-(this could be a control panel setting). Continue with the steps.

Further, I have a logitech wireless usb mouse, and when I click on the safely disconnect icon at the bottom of the page, the mouse is not listed.

Here is what I want you to do next. Click on Start, right-click on 'My Computer', click 'Properties', click 'Hardware' tab, then click on 'Device manager'.

Expand the selection for Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Right-click on each item and select properties. In the General tab at the bottom, each device should be enabled.

After you have verified that all items in the Universal serial bus contollers list are enabled, try attaching another usb device, such as a flash drive, external hard drive, printer, or anything else that is usb. if you have the same problem with this device then the problem may be with your usb controllers on your computer. Let me know what you come up with.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. The mouse pad is not working.

You might need a palmrest/touchpad replacement. Check the touchpad cable connection on the motherboard first. Remove it and reinsert in its place. If still not working you have to replace the assemble.

Connection procedure for Toshiba N745 mouse needed.

I don't know if this is the same as my mouse. However I have a satellite1955-S803 with wireless detachable keyboard and full sized optical wireless mouse. The original owner said it came with the laptop.
First I tried very hard to get the keyboard working. After a frustrating day of calling Toshiba, I noticed the "detachable" latches. I removed the keyboard to find a battery compartment. 4 days go by with me calling Toshiba trying to get a replacement. Finally found a battery at batteries plus that does work. about half the mAhr of the original but hey it works.
Now to the mouse. Replaced the AA's batteries but couldn't tie the mouse to the computer. I run linux so no M$ driver would help. Finally found a PDF of the manual and it says "if the mouse has trouble activating, press the wireless mouse button on the laptop."
That button is on the front left edge of the laptop (where the "Intel inside", "XP loaded", and "nvidia" stickers are located ) just to the left of the front silver "mode" button. Under the mouse press the connect button. (round near the optic laser but un-labled) then press the wireless mouse button on the computer and there you go. It just connects and works.
2 weeks I looked for this and it was just that simple.
