U051 indicates an ink cartridge that cannot be recognised by the printer. Sadly you cannot use your printer while this error remains.
I would advise the following: -Remove the problem cartridge from the printer -Wipe the gold contacts on the front of the cartridge with a piece of non fibrous tissue (like kitchen tissue). -Re-install the cartridge.
If the error remains it is likely that there is a genuine problem with the cartridge. So I would advise re-installing whichever cartridge you had in the printer before the error began to show or purchasing a new ink cartridge.
For starters, make sure the cartridge you have put in is the right cartridge for the machine. If it is, try pressing the STOP/REST button to cancel tthe message. Also try powering the machine down and re-seating the cartridge. The cartridge may have dirty contact, try cleaning them gently with a tissue and methylated spirits.
If the cartridge is brand new, you may have to either send it away to Canon for a replacement, or take it to where you bought it from for an exchange.
If the cartridge has been refilled, you may have to follow the reset procedure for refilled cartridges. On most Canon printers, simply holding the STOP/RESET button down for about 7 secs will turn off the ink monitoring level for the cartridge that the message is for.
You may need a new cartridge, that error says the ink cartridge is wrong or not installed properly. If it's a refilled cartridge it won't work, if it's a new canon cartridge, they warranty for 30 days from date of purchase.
the printhead it is attached at each cartridge, so, there are two options: a) cartridge damageds or b) bad read cartridge contacts. Do this, take out the cartridges, check if the contacts are clean and dry, then be sure to fix well again in the printer, if an error message appears, push the cancel button by 6 seconds, this deactivate the ink level sensor. If the error stay, 6 seconds 1 more time, if not works, I think that one or both cartridges are damaged, try with a new pair.
The cartridge may not be installed properly, so try to remove and put it back again. if this does not work, replace it with new cartridge because maybe the one you are using is damaged. hope this helps. Good day!
Check the Label on the cartridge if it covers a certain area then you will get an error message. Compare it with a good cartridge the label should nearly touch the lugs at top end. Only applies to refilled Carts.
