Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I turned off the the cooling system this afternoon when the freezer was making a clicking noise. It was off for ten minutes but this was hours ago and now the refrigerator temperature is at 69 degrees. I'm afraid the food will go bad. How long will it take for the temperature to get back to 33 degrees?

The clicking noise is the compressor relay that is clciking by itself ,the relay can be faulty or the capacitor to the motor can be defective.
It will be good to check this out before you restart. If the compressor runs well it will require an hour for the cooling to come back

The fridge/freezer does not cool

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You really have not provided any information such as your model number, which is located in your fresh food section on the side wall.
Is anything running?
Have you unplugged the unit for ten minutes and tried to reboot the control board?

You are going to have to remove the back freezer wall to see what the problem is.

1.) Bad Defrost Heater - You unit goes through a defrost cycle every 8-10 hours for about 20-30 minutes. This is where your unit shuts down with the exception of your light. Here all of your cooling coils will ice up and air flow will be blocked.

2.) Bad Cooling Fan - Have removed the back freezer cover, hold the door switch in - is the fan running?

3.) Restriction or Refrigerant Leak - Is there a block of ice in the upper right hand corner of the cooling (Evaporator) coil? If so you have a refrigerant leak or a obstruction. This repair is about $500.00 - $650.00.

4.) You may be locked into the Defrost Mode - I can not tell you where your defrost timer is based on the information provided.

5.) Bad Overload Relay - Is there a clicking noise at the compressor? This is a easy do it yourself repair.

Refrigerator refuses to cool or freeze

Pull the base front panel off. Inside using a flashlight look for a small motor abnout the diameter of lashlight and about one and a half inches tall. This unit will have a slot for a large flatblade screwdriver. Turn the slot (CLOCKWISE ONLY) until you hear a slight click. If your fridge fires up than you need a new "Defrost timer" if it does not than you've got bigger problems. Give the test about ten minutes time then feel the freezer walls, they should be cold. Thank you, Dana

We had a new oven put in 2 days ago, and the installer turned off the circuit breakers. Ever since he turned it back on my side by side has been making a clicking noise (like a relay). Then it will hum...

Remove the bottom front panel of the fridge and locate the defrost timer. This is a small circular motor with a screw slot in the center. Turn the slot CLOCKWISE ONLY and listen for a click. As soon as you hear the click stop, wait about five minutes and feel the walls of the freezer they should now be cold.If this happens again the timer will need to be replaced. Thank you, Dana

Freezer makes a humming noise and is not freezing

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Fridge keeps making "clicking" noise and will not get very cold

the clicking noise is probably the unit trying to start but it cant because its too overheated, try turning it off for about 30 minutes to cool the compressor down, then put the thermostat at 3 for the fridge and not the coldest for the freezer and leave it there for a few hours to stabalize the temperature and see what happens.

Freezer and refrigerator not cooling. Makes a buzzing noise

hello sbarrry2 it sound like the motor that is running continously is the condenseer fan and the buzzing and then the click would be the compressor trying to start up and going off on overlaod. shut the unit off at the swiutch, let it cool down (3) hours possibly and then try to turn it back on. this should work. Thanks for using FixYA

Refrigerator buzzing for 10 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes

Buzzing is usually a fan, like one in the freezer, or back bottom - for cooling the freon. The compressor over-heat usually will make a single click (off) and a few minutes later a click (on). If the fan in the freezer stops working well, the freezer will frost up and the fridge section will not be cold enough.

The compressor does run warm but not hot, if the freezer is not cooling then the comp is faulty, approach local repair agent for cost. Regards The Advisor Smeg Agent
