Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

We have 15 month old side by side GE GSHF5PGXAEBB. In the last week we have woken up to find the fridge temp warm, one day it was 54F and the other 45F. Both times the fan kicks in sometime in the morning and the temp is correct by noon. We had a repair guy out and if course all was running well when he checked it. After the second time he suggested replacing the "board". He seems uncertain that this will fix the problem and is offering no other options. What should we do?

    The model is:
GE® ENERGY STAR® 25.4 Cu. Ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser
    Model #: GSHF5KGXBB

No there is no clicking. The repair guy said this model doesn't have a defrost timer. When I booked the apointment the lady from the repair company said that it could be a timer malfunction. I am not sure if it is a misunderstanding or if the repair guy doesn't know what he is talking about. He did mention the compressor but said it seemed to be working fine.

Thanks for the advice. It is better to know more about why we would replace this part. Our repair guy was saying things like, "we can throw new parts at it and hope it solves the problem". This answer actually explained why the "board" was the logical fix and made me feel more confident in spending my money on it.

I am a bit confused because the model number listed seems to come up as a dishwasher and not a refrigerator...
So I cannot look to see exactly what you have for a defrost control on the particular refrigerator...
But the bottom line is that your defrost control is not working properly and the unit is sticking in the defrost mode too long causing it to get warm and then eventually it will come out of defrost and then cool down...

I assume that you do not hear any "clicking" like the compressor is trying to start and does not....if so then you have other me back and I will go over them...

From what you are saying then I would go with the "board" ... on this model it also controls the defrost cycle...I would believe the guy who came and looked at it...If sure that the difference between the lady and the guy was just like you said a misunderstanding...for years timers controlled the defrost, but many of the newer units are controlled from the board now...

And if the compressor is working then it is pretty much narrowed down to this board...

I have a 3 yr old ge Profile side by side refridgerator model #psc23sgrdss with the following problem. on 3 occasions in the last 3 wks I've found the temp. in the refrig section very high ( 56 degrees and...

I had same issue this past week. Refrigerator up to 45 freezer up to 15. Ice would melt and then everything would get cold again. Ice formed on everything. Next thing you know it was warming up again. I knew the rubber seal on door flap that opens to let ice out warped during summer months because I keep it 78 in summer. Had that replaced today. Temperatures have gone back to normal and stayed ALL DAY (knock on wood). Check door flap seal sticking your hand up making sure you don't push in the water tab. You should be able to feel if it is warped/wavy like an old LP or not. Good Luck.

GE side x side refridgerator temperature is

unlikely both temp.sensors will be faulty at the same time. Notice how different the internal temps.are compared to the acurate one you are measuring it against. Almost certain board is defective because incorrect info in the processor will tell the compressor/s to switch off before time.(hence not correct temp. all the time.) Suggest replacement.I normally replace probes as well to eliminate problems later..

Fridge and freezer warm at top, colder but not normal on lower shelves

How old is this frig? If it is older that 12-15 years, get a new one. Make sure there is not blockage to keep the air from circulating properly. The vent from the freezer to the cooler should also be free from blockage as well.

Fridge wont get cold and freezer gets cold then gets warm

Sounds like to me you have a defrost issue. If your fridge is only 2 months old don't sweat it and call out a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. to fix the problem. And sorry to say age does not matter with fridges any more. The good ole days of fridges lasting 20 years is over now it's 12 years if your lucky.
