The computer runs very slowly or not at all. task mamanger shows 1 gigabyte of memory in use (50%) but doesnt list any process that is using anywhere near that. tried removing norton security in case that is somehow running in the background, but that didnt help. (will reinstall if and when the computer speeds up enough for me to do that).

Your machine is running slowly because you have too many items running in the background. And if you also have some sort of virus protection running, forget it. Using msconfig command in your run window, remove all of the arrows that are checked in your startup window. Also, turn off your virus protection, reboot, and you will be amazed at the difference.
Adding memory does not speed up a computer - it just helps to minimize the speed slowdown that occurs when you run a program(s). Just run your machine lean and mean and you will be a happy camper.
1. First of all download and install CCleaner, it is free. Here is the link http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/1d59b13e3d0824a0c054077615cab5c3/ 2. Run the exe and then follow the instruction to install the ccleaner. 3. After opening the ccleaner, select all the check boxes inside the cleaner tab. 4. Click on Run Cleaner. 5. If you think there is any virus in your pc, then scan your pc with ESET NOD32 On demand scanner or install Quick Heal. If you want free antivirus then download and install avast home edition 5.0 and register for 1 year free license. (WWW.AVAST.COM)
** After doing all this, if u further want to improve ur system performance then tell me the Operating System installed in your system then I will tell you how to improve.
Once you installed the memory, did you enter into the System BIOS Setup screen? Do this and verify that the system recognizes the newly installed 2GB RAM. This should let the system access the new memory once you boot.
Its not really a question of hardrive space. Its of RAM and graphics card memory. Your computer has 3 gigs of ram and the game requires one however if you have other things running while your playing they will also take up ram and when all the ram is being used the computer will run slowly. Try not to have anything running while you play the game and see if that helps.
If its still slow it could be because of video memory. Try to play in low graphics detail which will make it easier for the computer to "process"
click on "My Computer" right click on local disc "C" and click on properties. This will show you in graph form how much spave you have left. Slow downs on computers are more from a shortage of ram memory and lots of temp files clogging up the system.
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
