Question about 1995-1997 Chevy Tahoe Ignition Starter Alarm Switch

1 Answer

Turn the key and the battery drains down to not enough to kick over motor, motor barely turns. Does it especially when hot. Starts OK in the morning, but still sluggish to start. After short trip, difficult to start, sometimes doesn't start. Battery is 500CCA, checked OK. Starter checked ok. Alternator is new. What else should I check?

Pull one spark plug at a time and check for oil along with turning key and seeing if it kicks harder with one sparkplug out at a time. If no results, try with spark plugs out and see if it kicks harder. Be sure to have a battery charger or jumper cables hooked up while doing all this to insure equal battery amps along testing each one. Dont turn key more than a few second each time. If it starts or kicks up harder with one spark plug out and you find fluid, blown head gasket, if it kicks harder only once all spark plugs are out, could still be nlown head gasket, but good chance timing is either off, or broken timing chain/gear/belt is the issue.

I am not sure as to why there would be noises coming out from behind your glove box, But i would suspect a lose wire. more than likely on the starter itself. I would trace the red or :hot" wire down from the batter to the starter and check them to make sure that they are all tight, also inspect them to be sure that there are no bare spots that might be touching the metal of the motor or frame.

The wiring should not be getting hot, but if you are trying to get the engine running with the starter motor and it is not turning the engine over, you need to investigate why the engine is not turning. Put the shifter in top gear and try to push the bike (key off) to see if the engine is free to turn. If ok, remove the starter motor and check the drive to the engine. It may be a broken chain or other interference trouble. Try running the starter with the chain disconnected. If it won't turn (make sure the body of the motor is touching the engine), the motor may be jammed in some way. The other possibility is that the wiring to the starter is grounding out somewhere--maybe the starter solenoid. Hope this helps!

My cooling fan motor isn't turning on my 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. My car is running hot because of this. How can I change the motor myself without spending a tonne of money on a dealership.

first check if the motor is bad.We ran a hot wire from hot to hot on battery. The fan kicked on.Ours was an inline fuse so ran wire from the positive wire on fan to a wire (hot) to key switch. This way you turn on the key and fan comes on
