1995 HONDA CIVIC HARD TO START

posted by GOLFNUTT on May 24, 2008

I have a 1995 Honda Civic that when cold is hard to start. The Car had been sitting for about 6 months and have since replaced the timing belt, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Once it starts it sounds like it is flooded and takes a minute or two to clear out the system then it runs GREAT. I do not want to just throw stuff at it to see what sticks however would like to hear if anyone is familiar with the problem. The Check Engine light does not come on and as I mentioned I can drive it all day without a problem however once the car its off for a few hours the tough starting conditions raises its ugly head. I basically have to press the pedal all the way to the flood while cranking over the engine before it fires up and again as mentioned above it sounds flooded and takes a minute or two for the motor to smooth itself out.

Get the fuel injectors checked, the rubber seal may be eroded from sitting. When the seals are dry, it will run rough until the gasoline soaks them which causes them to expand. Although you may not see an error message on the dash, the computer itself may signal a problem in particular. It may be an Oxygen or MAF Sensor too.
